Mid-Season Report (PART A)

Well, as we approach the half way mark of Season 18, it might be interesting to stop and ponder the season thus far.

Firstly, a big congratulations to the Urmummas, who knocked off the Vikings in a 3-game series on their way to Division II. Both teams played well but the Urmummas had too much fire-power and too much depth. However, with the Urmummas’s departure, we saw the arrival of a Div II team recently demoted in the Crockers. The response to their arrival was an interesting one with several teams immediately going into tank mode as they weather the Crockers storm. GC Vikings, however, and a few emerging teams from the Big 8 aren’t going to give the Crockers a free ride. It is the teams expected to harass the Crockers that we now turn our attention to.

Before examining those teams challenging Crockers for the championship, let us just nod our heads in the direction of those teams who left our league at the end of Season 17: Crockers, Ozzy Roasters, The Argonauts, The Wigs, LA Netters, Get Real and Seveners. Most were relegated, some turned BOT and the Crockers of course promoted.

Of course, when teams leave a league, new teams arrive. A big, warm welcome is extended to Mash Brewers, statesmans, Domination, Maltese Falcons, Doons Dazzlers and Edgeworth Sixers. I hope these new managers are enjoying themselves in our league thus far.

Now that we have dispensed with the pleasantries, let us examine the teams and their progress so far:

Mid-Season Report (PART D)

Well, that’s the stats out of the way. What do they say about the hopefuls this season in Div III.3? I guess I could go on to give a brief summary of how each team is going based on these stats, but perhaps some of you guys would like to use the material listed above to generate some conversation?

I might just add that I included XBB’s stats as I really think the CROCKERS and the GC Vikings need to monitor him closely. Although he and I are both tanking, his arena size, weekly income, banked income and existing players suggest he could be the dark horse yet again.

I know this isn’t probably what you were expecting me to write up, Bilbo, but I’m a bit pressed for time at present and thought at least we can discuss some of the things we see. I may add another post in the coming days that highlights the transfers teams have made in the last few weeks. This is always useful knowledge.

For those teams horrified with my inclusion of your arena sizes and player salary totals...go down to Bunnings, buy some timber, build a bridge and get over it! LOL

Well done yet again mate, always a pleasure to read your write ups. I did enjoy the arena and salary size additions, helped me get a better grasp of what an over-acheiving team I have, didn't go down to badly to Crockers either with less enthusiasm, will be interesting next time we meet..

I have a feeling Matty that XBB has decided to sit this one out, save up some coin and buy a team for next season though I will keep my eyes open :)

Hey guys. Hope everyone had a great xmas and is planning a fun and safe New Year.

Well the recent writeups didn't generate much discussion...in fact, they generated zero discussion. lol
Mind you, I know they were read as all of a sudden several teams starting building up their arenas!

Anyway, I was thinking: I'm going to be in this league for a few seasons yet and I really want to enjoy the time in this league. To that end, I was thinking that weekly MVP votes on the eight games played might be an interesting inclusion. Of course, while I'm happy to start them off and even do them for this season, perhaps other will put their hat into the ring and have a go from time to time.

So, how do the MVP votes work. Well, Bevers will be familiar with this system as it is similar to the one from our PL; however, for the rest of you, it works like this:

In each of the 16 games played each week, 6 votes are awarded in a 3, 2, 1 system. 3 votes forn the best player, 2 votes for the next and 1 vote for the third best player in that game. When awarding the votes, several factors (rules) need to be considered and adhered to although the votes can always be challenged (we'll get to that).

1. A player must play a minimum of 24 minutes to be eligble for MVP votes;
2. A players rating can be a determining factor when comparing two players with similar stats. The rating is also a very good indicator for choosing the votes to be awrded;
3. A player who plays the majority of the game as an SF can and is often given an extra rating point as for some reason, SFs are usually poorly rated by BB. This is probably because most tactics revolve around outside or inside offenses and defenses;
4. The number of points, rebounds, assists, steals, turnovers, blocks and fouls by a given player must be taken into account when awarding MVP votes;
5. The type of offensive and defensive tactics used by the two teams must also be taken into account when awarding MVP votes;
6. The player matchups must also be considered and will depend on the tactics employed by both teams.

These guidelines allow for any manager to hav e a go at doing the MVP votes for a given Night or Week.

Now, as is always the case, some managers don't agree with MVP votes given in some games. This is expected given the attachment we often have to our players. As a result, an MVP votes appealing system is often used. Now, we could employ such a system; however, in the name of fairplay and good sportsmanship I would like to suggest that such a system is not needed and that we all agree to accept the MVP votes given. If people are willing to take the time to award them after analysing the games, then it seems only fair that we accept them. However, that doesn't mean we can't discuss them and, where it is blatantly obvious that a mistake has been made, then the person doing the votes may adjust them accordingly.

So, if those of you who check this thread read this post and are interested in having MVP votes awarded each Saturday and Tuesday night, please reply to this post. If there is enough interest, I will do the MVP votes for tonight's 8 games and we can go from there...

Hey there, kyV, welcome to Div III.3. If you have any questions about anything, this is the place to ask them. Before you do anything though, read through the Game Manual (located on the menu bar to your left. After you have read it entirely, throw some questions our way. We'll be happy to help out a new Aussie team!
