but the fact is that we have put so much time and effort into making a LI team, that we are best off sticking with it FOR NOW
NOW is the best time to change our path. It is not like we are anywhere where we want to be anyways. To continue what we are doing would be similar to how some NBA teams choose to remain in mediocrity instead of blowing up their team and starting fresh. I'm not saying to fire everyone, but we need to take real steps towards changing how we train our players. We will have to leave the team alone for a while, until the newly trained players mature.
We have some of the best players, the "best" (most popualr) tactics, yet we suck? Something has to change. So far, the general consensus has been:

Focus more on secondary skills to have a more balanced roster.

Select a small group (2-5) of players to be specially trained for the team

No you are misunderstanding me. NOW we currently are a LI team....but like I have said, and Im not sure if you have read what I am saying, we need to continuing progressing towards the ability to play other ways. We could take our current players and try something else, yes, but they will not perform as well as what we have now, which is the LI. Thinking about the future does not mean that it will work right now...it means we change to perform better in the future or have more options for the future.

Right now we are made to run the LI offense. Its that simple. We need to keep what we have and build for the future to have the potential to run something else.

There's no way we can deviate from what we have done almost every season until we set ourselves up to be able to. We are not ready to stray away from it yet but we are slowly getting there.

As I said earlier, the goal is to train multiple players for multiple tactics, thinking about the FUTURE and not NOW. So for those that say "we need to change it now" dont understand that we arent ready yet.

Edit: To add to this, I am talking about the future as being 2-4 seasons from now.

I agree with new era. By not deviating from what we are doing we are not going to deviate from losing either. Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results = insanity.

Yes now we may be best suited for training/running LI but I think what others are saying is NOW we should ALREADY have some players deviating in preparation to where its a smoother transfer.

Ok you guys dont seem to understand what I am saying......right NOW we can not deviate from it because we dont have all the appropriate pieces. Its not as simple as saying "hey lets change it up and go with something else". It just doesnt work like that. The foundation has already been laid down for us while Coco was the NT manager. We have some guys being trained differently. BUT that doesnt mean we are ready to deviate from the LI just yet. Thats what Im trying to get you guys to understand. If we stray off the path we are on right now we will more than likely have even more losses than what we have been getting.

So there are a few ways I see this.

1) We go totally different NOW and end up losing big for a few seasons

OR

2) We stay with what we have now while at least competing. Develop the program for the future. THEN we have the option to do something different.

2) Completely dividing our scouting apparatus into a NT track and a U21 track, so that managers with prospects get an initial contact that asks them if they would like to have their player be a part of the U21 (short-term gain) or the NT (long-term strategy) track. Then instead of depending on rounding out U21s (or near-misses) we have a whole crop of players designed for the NT stage.

2) The only issue I see with this is that the Junior NT may become worse as a result of this. We would be taking potential JNT players out of the rotation if we had two different groups. While a player is less than 21, they should be able to play on U21. Few players that make the national team wouldn't have been able to make the JNT when they were younger anyways.

As someone with an interest in the U21 team, I like this response. I'm curious to see other candidate's thoughts on this idea.

Im pretty sure we discussed this to a certain extent on the offsite at some point didnt we?

I mean, something like this would need to be talked about between first the NT and U21 managers to figure out whats best.

I think this was discussed as a lot of MVP players, since very few can make the NT any more, were going to be trained towards the U21 team. While the HOF and ATG( very few) were trained towards the NT. As for SFs though, I think thats where more thought needs to be put into it. But it seems a lot of the great SFs that make the NT, usually make the U21 team as well.

This can be a potentially good idea to keep the U21 great, while still improving the NT though.

Creating a USA NT "Bank." We find a way to have people update their finances on the offsite and/or make a pledge to reserve X amount of money... And then when a player comes on the market the NT manager can try to put together enough money to get/keep the player in American hands.

Bank of America?
