Hopefully your prediction proves true Sid! Looks to be your season though...after last season's spend-a-thon I imagine you will be looking forward to some ABBL cash to restock the coffers

My initial plans this season were to get some early wins, then sell off and chase flags.

Some how I stayed in the cup and kept winning league games and it wasnt until I lost my semi in the cup that I had to sell Cranshaw.

Most weeks my economy has started 3 to 4 hundred thousand in debt, so a lot of teams should be kicking them selves, because this season really was open for whoever had of rolled the dice.

My roster has not a lot of depth so one injury to a key player and its curtains for me.

Your roster is more expensive than mine and overall your starting 5 is at least as good if not better than mine.

I have to hope for no injuries and that home court advantage is enough to get me through

Yeah I get that, but there's no logical reason why that way of playing should be rewarded more than others.

Yer this is true, i guess they have to have something. Maybe with more teams in the bigger leagues, it would mean everyone would just buy players from those leagues? It happens already, i know when i look on the transfer market, its always Chinese, german, Spanish, US players that crop up commonly.

There have been heaps of dicussions on the forums about a better merch system. I think the one we have now is fair and logical, but at the same time, i think the ratio's are wrong.
for instance you Matt, had the 2nd best record in the league for most of the season - I think its fair to say that your merch does not reflect this. Regardless of your roster, draftee's etc, in real life a Basketball team who was 2nd for most of the season would sell heaps of merch.

So yer i think the logic behind it is sound, just the ratio's and implimentation is wrong. In real life, people buy merch because of
a) Team success
b) Star players

you don't see too many Tony parker singlets around do you? But plenty of Paul Pierce, Rose, Lebron etc. so maybe merch should be simplified to be supportive of that logic.

The answer to that is obvious, it is not about winning but winning with style. Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady just retired this week and both were wildly popular despite not winning and would have sold far more merch than anyone from winning but unsexy teams of the early naughties like Detroit or San Antonio.

Imagine San Antonio, Indiana or Memphis had won this season. Do you really think any of their players would outsell LeBron, Kobe or Melo?

That "star power" factor is reflected in things like all star appearances in real life whereas in BB the all star selections vary between surprising and insane.

In BB the merchandising does encourage people to draft and train. Not even close to making it worthwhile but it is like getting a discount on the cost. Thank goodness something is still encouraging people to train.

I guess it depends on what you think a 'good' game is in terms of game design. Should training be encouraged over buying established players? Should there be a right and wrong way of playing, or should all strategies be equally viable?

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer to any of these questions, it's really a matter of personal preference. I do believe, however, that all strategies should have a roughly equal chance of being successful.

99% of the factors in the game already favour buying established players. The strategies are not even close to being equally viable. I am just glad that there is something besides fun and satisfaction that encourages training. I wish the strategies were equally viable.

So MVp this season is actually a tough choice! Most of the good players are from teams that didn't end up with the best record.

so yer i dunno! Im thinking maybe Slobodan Brkljac from Geelong Vipers, or maybe Su Huawei from Bell park super cats.

scoring clips were down this season as well.
