once again, the tactics are the key

65 missed shots with run&gun against a 3-2 zone
5/10 3-pointers against a 2-3 zone


u can't score 5-10 for 3 points when your attack is worse than my outside def, beside my tactics. also his tactics was look inside
this game I should win with 20 - 30 points

yes u are right tactics are important. but u r looking only in one direction.
the oppenent played look inside versus his 2-3 Zone. Defense is perfectly set.

sorry but I see no reasonable answer why croatia lost...

of course. i'm not saying the tactic he chose was wrong, but it explains the high percentage his opponent had for the few (only 10) 3 pointers he shot

no it does not.

50% is really really good for 3 pt shots.

one team is shooting 50% with inept (low) outside scoring against mediocre(low) outs deff

the oppenent team is shooting less than 33% with respectable(low) outs. scoring vs inept(high) outs. deff

sure it is a lot more difficult to take 47 3pt shots compared to 10 but i think the difference in those ratings is HUGE



- secondly look at the inside def of croatia and the great inside shooting by new zealand

- thirdly for both, outs. and inside scoring look at the offensive flow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ratings only tell you about the oppertunity's your players' got. So your players got a lot of open shots, due to your respectable vs inept offence, but still they are not skilled enough to hit those 3-point shots, that's why you lose.

Your team just is not skilled enough to play a fast paced outside focus offense, your team has been beaten because of their bad shooting percentage, which is a direct result of the wrong tactic choice.

So you can 'bitch' at the match engine whatever you want, but if you choose the wrong tactic, which do not fit your team, you will lose. Which is explained very well in the rules as well.

So don't blame a wrong tactic chioce (don't only look at ratings) to the match engine.

I belive that team ratings are wrong here... as well as matchup Ratings...

The box score shows that NZ had 43/89 FG= 48.31% and from their rating below, it does not seem to be the true...
Matchup Ratings
Position Points per 100 Shots
as PG 74.3
as SG 59.0
as SF 93.1
as PF 107.8
as C 63.7 TOTAL 397,9........... 397,9/5/2 = 39,79%FG


The box score shows that CROATIA had 39/104 FG= 37.5%
Matchup Ratings for Croatia
Position Points per 100 Shots
as PG 87.2
as SG 96.7
as SF 98.7
as PF 114.9
as C 127.8 TOTAL 525,3.......... 525,3/5/2 = 52,53%

So, both Matchup Ratings and Team Ratings might be showing opponents statistic, instead their... that is my guess...
Anyone who have more time could check this by finding out percentage of PG-s individualy, SG-s individualy...etc... and then compare it to those numbers...

P.S. I did not include FT attempts in this estimation (since i dont know if it is calculated in Position Points per 100 Shots), but I dont think that it would change those numbers significatly...
Again... This is all my guess...

it's not a bug

the matchup ratings show how many points a player would score by taking 100 shots in the game
of course no player in the game took all his 100 shots so if player_points/player_shots > MR/100 the player was only lucky (he took more good shots than the number you could expect from the matchup)

I would not agree on that...
As I know... Position Points per 100 Shots... should represent percentage of FG (for different position...PG, SG, SF, PF, C) if you divide it by 2...
And average TEAM percentage = the sum of all players percentage divided by 5...
which should be the same as team % FG...

i dont think u r right on that one. I believe those scoring ratings include everything, driving skill etc. AND shooting skills. unfortunately nothing is said about it in the rules.

anyways lets assume u r right. then your theory contradicts to the matchup ratings in this game. Croatia is far better in each position. so if you are right on the scoring ratings (what i dont believe), it would make this game even more absurd...

yes, but it's based on 100 shots. No player shoots 100 times in a game

And average TEAM percentage = the sum of all players percentage divided by 5...
which should be the same as team % FG...


no, that's just wrong maths because every player takes a different number of shots in tha game

looks like we are talking here about HUGE random, or about bug. because if you lose game where you think "should I play take it easy or not" it is a problem,
and if games like this happened in play off or in world championship it will be a much bigger problem.

it is OK to have random here, so weaker teams can beat stronger, but not with ratings like this.
