well done to both Sid and Akuma for showing us a truely awesome Div II finals series. After all the millions of dollars in salary and player (and staff) purchases, and the months of mind games, forum chatter and just general bulldust being spilt by all - only 10 points was the difference in the end.

I think also the BB gods were smiling on this result - Of the two, Sid is probably the best placed to recover, given his current crop of trainee's - a loss to TAK could have seen him dissolve into the BB ether.

At least we know Sid will defiantely bounce back in some form or another and it will be nice to see his trainee's grow.

So i guess there was at least one eternal question answered tonight - How long can Akuma keep up his team of big salary players? Well.... at least one season so far.

Thanks Sid! That was pretty much the hardest BB game I've ever played

It would be interesting to hear from the old timers of this game, but I doubt if a team in Div 2 has ever beaten a team with a total players salary of 950K, in order to promote.

Duffill certainly had a good game, Ott did a great job on him in game 2 but got beaten pretty badly in game 3.

If I had of some how managed to sneak a win I had thoughts of buying Duffill and Smeltz to allow them back into the ABBL.

Certainly the loss will have a sincere impact on my team and will put me back a few seasons.

Hopefully the sale of Linares, Cranshaw and Grund will clear my debt.

I might have to consider selling Noah and Riviera, as they will be too old by the time Im good enough to get another shot of promotion.

Haha mate don't pretend you weren't the instigator of many of the "interesting" forum conversations!

For anyone that is/was interested in my finances:

I started my XBB campaign with something like 3.5 million.
I spent roughly 800k buying Smeltz in Season 22 (thanks to Yoda for jacking up the price from a TPE of 400k!)
I spent about 1.1 million buying Duffman at the start of Season 23 (thanks to Fishy for jacking up the price from a starting point of 1 million! Damn these Calamari....). Spent a few dollars here and there, ended up starting Season 23 with something like 1.5 million left in the kitty.

For the first half of season 23, thanks to a huge merch bump (i was getting around 120k a week) and cup earnings, i was breaking even. I cant remember what my salary was, i think it was around 600k.

Phase 2 of season 23, when i brought in Bonicini and lost the cup, i was losing roughly 100k a week.

Phase 3 of season 23, just before the finals, when i bought in Luster, i was losing 300k a week.

Phase 4 of season 23, just as the playoffs kicked off, i was on a 1.1 million roster, and was losing nearly 600k a week.

Right now, my bank balance is around -800k after the three finals games. If I don't dip below 500k next week i think all the players on my team are going to get auto-listed. I've sacked the three rentals (don't think i'll get much anyway, and don't want to pay another weeks salary), and i'm hoping the promotion money will kick in soon to bring me back into the green.

It was safe to assume that if i did not win tonight, I would've faced bankruptcy if I couldn't offload guys like maclean and abimbola for handsome $$$$.

Oh well..with great risk comes great reward! Or was it with great power comes great responsibility? I forget! :D

weird though..game 3 offense ratings were crapper then game 2 even tho we both crunched it and both had higher enthusiasm! Defense ratings were a lot better though

Thanks for info on cost of promo. Probably the most informative I have seen on it. Was wondering what it would take if I bought up. At least I know I can achieve it.

I wasnt too far off with my guestimates of your finances

(237504.77)

I was 10K short on my guess of your merchandise and fortunately for you you had more than the 700K in the bank that I worked out that you would need

I knew you were close to financially breaking even during the first half of the season, hence I brought up mid season to try and hurt your cash flow

I won that battle but I guess you won the war.

I have followed suit to you and sacked Linares who was about to turn 33 and wouldnt have sold for much more than the 217K this financial update was going to cost me. (Bugger I just remembered I was going to hold onto him for 6 days to try and win the Wombat cup, well I guess Ive lost that as well)

Grund has attracted a lot of interest from Germany and the National coach over there is trying to find him a home back home.

His salary of 249K a week is a lot but he is on the National Team, he is only 27yo and he has Marvelous Shot blocking which might be more important with the game engine changes.

Cranshaw will have to be sold as well, possibly towards the end of next week. That should clear my debt but at some stage I will have to make calls on Riviera and Aitkins who are both aging.

Who knows I might sell Lie, Ott and Donnelly as well and do a full on tank

Honestly I didnt intend to bid on Cranshaw and would have sold Linares that week and not brought Grund if I hadnt of got stuck with Cranshaw.

Total cost to HA, will be about 2 mill plus a week lost training my trainees, plus having my team put back several seasons

see thats not too bad.

to go full tilt at winning and to not win, and still only lose about $2m in the process, it goes to show the rest of us who are sitting on millions in the kitty, that we could have a tilt one season, and then have another tilt the season after and then, possibly, another after that for some of the others :)

its good to know.

draft anyone?

I should add that the 2 mill I quoted was only to put up challenge against Team Akuma.

It doesnt include the team I built that got me to the top of the conference. (Ott, Donnelly, Aitkins, Riviera, Lie and the 4 and a half mill I spent on 3 trainees),

Back in season 15, I think I invested about 5 and a half mill in the week after the All Stars game and by the day that the last final was played I think I owed about 2.4mill

Yer ok thats true, but not everyone is going to start from scratch.

maybe lets word it differently. $2m loss during a challange to another buy-up.

its still not bad. well.. not as bad as what i was expecting.
