im bothered by this statement,

true scouting even with a lot of money into it is still a BIG and i mean BIG Gamble, thats why we see guys like olowokandi, kwame brown etc.

but it falls now to the question how can we know if the player has the potential we see, meaning if his a bench warmer or considered as low pick that needs a lot of work how can we see it to what extent we can probably develop. this as i say it complicates how we see and take players.

if a player has a certain capacity to distinct himself as a jordan or a lafayette lever or oscar robertson or to the bad point as ostertag ( man you saw him at the playoffs and next season BAM! his like trash) we have to have a certain understanding as managers from our scouts and trainers how long can we keep him. because as we know the training process is going back to the slow process and developing players is really essential thing to see.

i mean his your first pick, you see that skills he has are promising but if he doesnt have that potential star factor then training him more is waste compare to a less promising but has great potential ( cause he can be train faster)

we see boozer who wasnt drafted high but he rocks, amare who in his young age was snub till he reach the middle of the draft, dirk drafted low and the list goes on.

also we are faced with the dilemna that is there a chance that a player who in this team doesnt develop fast but when was traded to another team becomes a budding star. ( BB is this possible)?

this are example players
1. elliot perry - from charlotte to suns, when he played for the suns he became a shooter, faster ball handler etc.
2. chauncey billups - when he moved to detriot then he blooms
3. rip hamilton - when he was a wizard he was a good average player but when move to detriot DING! you know the story.
4. caron butler - even with a potential in miami, then traded to lakers who in turn trade him to wizards, hey what his average in steals?
5. beno udrih - you know he just sits at san antonio but a lot knows his better than parker , in sac town . . .. . who is starting point guard?

having this much gamble on our part, would it be best we also get to choose who we scout? meaning if i want a a guard forward or center?

it doesnt mean i get to pick the dream pick or wish list that i scouted but at least we can target what we want to have than just a jumble of players. meaning i can lock on a guard on a deep forward center team for the draft and hope to get him but still there is a chance i wont get him and got a center or forward.

I will never train a player with a potential under "all star", I'm sure about that now

Talk about leaping to conclusions based on no knowledge of what is to come, LOL!!

You do understand that "about 20% of draftees" means only 9-10 per season in each league and that a good team such as yours may not even get one of these players in a competitive league draft?

I doubt very many 'all-star' potentials will hit the TL and the price will be beyond the means of a mere DII team such as yours.

There are many more facets of this new system that I can think of that will effect my draft/training decisions, far too many to speculate about without seeing my new draftees.

I have 3 trainees which will be all stars in future - so for my 1 phase training they will cover my capacity... and if I will get down one of those - only for a player which will have the same or better potential, because I'm not stupid, that's all

I interpret Charles' sentence differently than you. The potential we see it the correct potential. But if you keep on training a 'bench warmer' beyond his potential (thereby with slower training) you can still improve the player's skills and prove the scout that that player could be more than to just 'a bench warmer'.

The question is how often will be scouts wrong - if I understand well, the player can reach his potential and then "show" to you that he is an "all star" or whatever, this is a good solution if it will work by this way - in the training could be a risk factor, nice

the point exactly, the question from me.

if im paying 2 players with almost the same salary, having one a better "potential" than the other, how can i know. because if my starters are already there and they are like going to the future and needs training. then its good though your wasting much time and resources.

but if your in need of player when can you see, with the slow training process thats going to happen now since right now we are still in the accelerated training process.

if this leaves us a player who takes 2 seasons to be sensational comapre to someone who can be sensational after a season but started as much lower skills then i would hand it to the bad pick and develop him.

when will we see those changes ?

I wonder what the denominations and distributions will be. Maybe:

Bench Warmer- 50%
Starter (?)- 20%
All star- 15%
MVP (?)- 4%
All time Great- 1%?
