Defense is infectious. If one of your superstars demands everybody lock down on defense, the team will listen. When your superstar doesn't give a shit about defense, nobody else will. Case in point. Pierce and Allen were never great defenders. Garnett came along and made them better defenders. They feed off his defensive energy and work hard on that end of the floor. If your leader isn't making you work hard on defense, nobody will.

dont sound cheesy... beside 1 superstar playing defense will not make the whole team a much better defensive team. celtics is a different senario in that pierce has always played pretty good defense and Garnett is definately a different case from perimeter player since he give a defense presence inside whice causes the opponents' perimeter player less willing to take it to the rack as they might get block... also dont forget celtics has always been a defensive team... oh yea, one of the best defensive pg in the nba, Rondo...

your example of celtic = whenever howard goes, the team will be much better defensively... one perimeter player doesnt affect as much...

They won't be a contender cause they have nothing. They can't build for a while cause there's no assets to trade, no draft picks to trade, no cap space. Nothing.

your opinion... they upgraded 2 of their position with a pretty good prospect in fields... they could always pick up old C like the 2 o'neals for chips with the bait of a possible ring.

this sounds like you are the silly one, I said could since he has so many options. I did say he "could" take a paycut... dont flame me just because I am giving my 2 cent, your the one making it sounds like the sure thing that he definately wont, he definately will... again all I said that knicks was no sure thing.

no offense I dont even get some of the counter point since they are just some form of insults or something??

He had options, but he wasn't willing to take any. He wanted to be traded before the cutoff because the CBA will cut his potential earnings by a bucketload. The only team he was willing to sign an extension with were the Knicks. It would be better if they had waited, cause if he really wanted to go to them he would, but the $65m was way too important.

That's just over $21m a season, something he can't get if the league changes to salary structure.

ermmm what? that was my own point that felton was an average guard made good by the system... what does that have to do with other peoples' posts.

That's exactly what I said. So we agree on that. But he's 8 years younger than Billups. So there was no need for this swap.

in what universe is steve nash fast and agile? also that doesnt even qualify as an argument? I also remember your the one that said billups dont fit the offense so that probably meant he is a step down from felton? I didnt even say fisher run pick and roll? what? all I said was that the slower guards that still thrive on the pick and roll? beside was steve nash really fast... when he was pick and roll with amare just last season with great success i might add...

Nash has always been pretty crafty. He's no John Wall or Rose in terms of speed, but he can move pretty well. Nash thrives off pick and roll and run and gun, he would be great for the Knicks. Not so much Billups.

no. who the hell would take a shooter over a scorer? he shoots 38% carrer simply due 1 great season when he shot 45% in his first season... also carrer shooting % doesnt mean much when your a 3rd year rookie... so dont make him sounds like a second coming of reggie miller...

The issue isn't Gallinari vs Melo. It's "Why bow down to Denver and trade Gallinari as well as everything else"

The initial offer didn't include Gallinari. They gutted so much of their team. If they had kept Gallinari it would have been an awesome trade.

But it isn't. I didn't intend to make it personal, so if you're offended for some strange reason, harden up.

=)

No, you misinterpreted the message.

Garnett demands defense, he's a leader, no matter how much I dislike him, he can lead. Garnett made a team better defensively.

Howard is a joker. He's not a leader, he won't demand a team to step up. He's a good individual defender, but team captain material? Demanding better from his teammates? He's not known for that.

your opinion... they upgraded 2 of their position with a pretty good prospect in fields... they could always pick up old C like the 2 o'neals for chips with the bait of a possible ring.

Contender or Playoff team?

There's a difference. Contenders need to play defense. No defense, you can't win a championship.

Going back to felton being average and made to look good by the system. This is the case with nearly every player in D'Antoni's system. That said Felton put up very nice numbers in Charlotte and that's why the Knicks chased him. He is a solid ball handler with court vision who has very good ass/to numbers.

He's not Steve Nash or Chris Paul but he's decent.

I still maintain the Knicks won't win anything with Melo and Amare and the rest of the scrubs they have. Even if Phil Jackson was the coach. Over time they may acquire some more pieces but i think they are no chance of a title for at least 4 years and it the NBA bring in a hard cap in this CBA they are screwed.

if phil jackson is the coach, he wouldnt have gone after Amare... would have gone after someone like lebron giving the history of him succeeding with 1 great slashing type of player like jordan and kobe.

oh well, only time will tell about knicks...

and Iwen, dont call howard a joker :p he is a beast!

Of course he's a beast... but he's a joker! It's hard to take him seriously..

If Lebron played in the triangle he'd average 25/5/5 and people would still call him a god.. even though that's what Kobe averages.

Interesting stuff here.

Jordan:

1072 career games
41,001 career minutes
24,537 FGA
1,778 3PTA
581 3pt shot made..

Kobe:

1078 career games
39,316 career minutes
20,841 FGA
4,046 3PTA
1,377 3PT made.

Jordan took 4,000 more shots in the same number of games over his career. That's insane... and people call Kobe a ballhog =P

Well theres a reason why they call Kobe a ball hog... sometimes he goes into a sook mode and just shoots the team to death or he doesn't shoot at all.. Jordan never did that.

Remember the year when the Lakers had payton, kobe, malone and shaq and got smashed by the pistons? Kobe chucked a sook and refused to shoot in the 4th quarter.

Also there are many times when kobe chucks a sook and refuses to trust his team mates and just shoots the team to death. Notice many games where when kobe scores a ton, the lakers lose a ton as well? this happened many times even when they had gasol and the superstar lineup they had.

I'm not trying to bag out kobe here, but putting him next to jordan may seem like I'm bagging him out =P hahahah
Jordan is simply that good =P

and the consensus about the knicks/denver trade is that the knicks lost way too much to acquire carmelo... like i said, they tanked 10 seasons already, why not wait another 4 months LOL. I guess this years playoffs will bring in a lot of moolah for owner Dolan. He cares more about the business side of things in regards to making money then winning championships. he will sell more carmelo jerseys then the jerseys of all those players he gave away.

A massive factor in that with Jordan was his early years. I bet if you break those shots down between his early years and championship years he would have taken less shots in the championship era. That was the beaty of what Jackson did as a coach. He was able to help MJ make his teammates better and understand that they would never live up to his expectations of what they should play like.

Kobe has only shown signs of that in the last couple of years.

If you want a great read buy "The Jordan Rules" by Sam Smith. He was the beat writer for the Bulls and basically wrote a behind the scenes book on one of their championship years. (i think the 2nd one from memory) AS lot of interesting stuff in there about how bad a team mate MJ was at different times.

Just in on the ESPN website :
Nets get Deron Williams
Jazz get Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, 2 first rounders and the now mandatory it seems $3 mil

The Nets claim it wasn't a desperation trade after missing out on Melo, but giving up Favors and 2 first rounders is selling out your future, especially when there isn't all that much to put around Williams at the moment.

And so the Jazz enter rebuilding mode?????

Awesome trade for the Nets in my book. Top 5 PG in the league. Will play D and is young enough to contribute for a long time. NJ still have a 1st rounder and Deron is a massive upgrade over Harris (and trust me as a Wisconsin fan i love Harris).

The must be more to come for Utah. They now have Jefferson, Milsap, Kirralenko and Favours who pretty much all play PF. Maybe Orlando will come knocking for one of them?
