Looking at the season you "tanked". From your record, you could of easily have taken 6-th spot and prolly would have won your relegation games. Still making the same money and keeping the divIII income.

But divIII-IV is lowish to base facts on. Good managers are expected to raise to higher levels no matter which tactic they use.

I should warn you, that no team has come back stronger after tanking than he has been before.

I'm calling BS on that one. I mean, no team ever, how can you know that?

My team as a whole is in better shape now than its ever been, it's not even close. The only reason i dont have a bunch of titles is ive chosen not to buy them. So thats one example, and im sure there are plenty more.

I don't think you're looking at the evidence people are putting out there.

I don't know, we've asked before for a quality example of tanking working. And you've been the example given, pretty much the only example. And I think it's hard to judge if it's a viable strategy when a team was already highly successful like yourself. So while I doubt it's never worked for anyone ever, it's also not nearly as successful as everyone seems to think.

Also I'd agree that d.III/IV isn't the best place to take quality info from, too much variation between leagues and whatnot.

Final point, not to doubt your judgement on your own team, but while you may say your team is better than ever before the results seem to say otherwise.

I'm familiar with GM-Jason's short 2-season tanking which has led to him peaking higher now (fair shot to promote to the NBBA) then he'd ever been before. At the point he started tanking he was a 3rd place team in II and on the verge of bankruptcy.

I dont have any trophies but that's not the only measure. When i blew my team up in season 14 I walked away with 17m. I have that much now, along with 4 potential domestic NT players in their prime. My goals are different now, but that doesnt change that fact that the overall health of my team is much better now than its ever been, by a landslide. All thanks to tanking and the financial and training benefits that come with it.

I think it works well if you have thought it over before doing it. If you just do it without any plan for the future then your doomed to fail as with everything else in this game.

Really, really, really good point!

Yeah, if you tank without working out exactly how it should go, it can go worse than using a non-tanking strategy.

Tanking is a very complicated issue to deal with. I still think that it is not the 'optimal' strategy, but it is a great strategy only if done in a right way. Also, as what was said, it might be not competitive for other teams but if others are patient in doing it, then let them do it. Tanking will probably take 2-3 seasons or more to have an impact. If you are a great manager, 2-3 seasons is enough time to train players and expand your arena.

In short, tanking should not be discouraged to a point where every tankimg team will stop and probably quit the game. It should be discouraged to a point where teams will rake in lower arena income. In that case, make the continuous losing have a more drastic effect on arena attendance.

Note: It is very much needed to identify teams that are tanking to those that have a weak roster or uncompetitive. This will probably be the hardest issue to address.
