Thanks guys, I meant between 8 and 9 steals (as a team).

Surprised to see outside defense is the primary skill.
I have one of the best OD in my league and there are probably 10 teams that make more steals than me (and by more, I mean double the amount).

However, I'm the team with the least steals made against me, so that's probably where OD and HA come in handy?

If they play FCP it increases their steals dramatically. Maybe you should check it :)

Also, playing with low pace decreases all stats, even if that doesn't necessarily mean that the team in question is worse...

That makes perfect sense. The teams with double the amount of steals play FCP indeed.
I'm also playing with low pace, so that probably decreases steals further.
Thanks very much!

JK: What about Handling and Passing for the defense ratings?
Parrot: They do play a role, and again less for Man to Man than for the other tactics. Interestingly, 3-2 increases the weight of the Passing skill substantially, whereas 1-3-1 emphasizes Handling (less strongly). So these skills must have a component where good Passing maybe helps to intercept pass attempts, and good Handling is quick hands that can put the ball handler under pressure. And a defensive tactic can re-enforce that.
