Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 2

Chelsea Seagulls vs. Black Label Society 82 - 106 (42320081)

Obviously the best team won with the top team in Australia taking on the tanking Seagulls who additionally had their highest salaried player out injured, but have I mentioned enough times that at one stage during the 3rd that chelsea was winning? However with their only half decent big man out injured they had no way at all to slow down the relentless inside attack of Zarrinche and Fatur.

3 Yavar Zarrinche Black Label Society 31 PTS 10 REB. Great scoring and gets the nod above Fat Girl because of the way Sperbert was able to score on her in buckets.

2 Grgur Fatur Black Label Society 21 PTS 21 REB 9/11 FGS 17.5 rating. Early MVP favourite is able to do almost anything...except guard Sperbert - blam!

1 Marko Sperbert Chelsea Seagulls 51 PTS at almost 50% against the best team in Australia. It was Sperbert 51 the rest of the entire Seagulls team 31 and at a much lower % as well.

Geelong Vipers vs. Melbourne Goldfish 68 - 89 (42320084)

Geelong was hoping to Vipe the floor with the Goldfish but being in playoff made Xie and friends were having none of it and their outside attack was both relentless and efficient even hitting 9/20 3 point shots. The Vipers were solid inside but poor shooting by everyone except Dipso who tried to strangle the Wang left them limp and exhausted.

3 Xie Guanzheng Melbourne Goldfish 26 PTS. Nothing unusual from the master chef here a typical MVP performance.

2 Ace Dispo Geelong Vipers 18 PTS. It is a big drop to the second best but the Ace was the only Viper to shoot anywhere close to 50%.

1 Ofek Kabilio Melbourne Goldfish They will need a lot more from him or Smeltz will make Ofek his bitch but Ofek did control star Viper Rosales well.

Whompas Donkeys vs. Chumunga 84 - 104 (42320082)

Any time over the last several seasons this would have counted as a massive upset but the sleeping giant is waking up and behind $4,200,000 man Gerd Jahe who has been dropping scores in the 60s in league games, Chumunga is once again a team to be feared.

3 Gerd Jahe Chumunga 27 PTS 12 REB 4 AST 14.5 SF rating. While the FG% could have been better Gerd can "Get Buckets".

2 Dewey Bowers Whompas Donkeys 33 PTS. Another gunner who can put up massive numbers really fast Dewey has established himself as by far the most dangerous Donkey.

1 Nigel Cubby Chumunga 15 PTS 13 REB 7/11 FGS. When was the last time tremell had a $150,000 player? Something is clearly happening here.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 2 Part 2

JW City Bulls vs. Bell Park SuperCats 101 - 117 (42320085)

Very impressive that JW can keep up with Bell Park and ABBL playoff team, even more scary that there are probably three better teams in II.1 I really hope I don't end up there. I am also always impressed by JW's willingness to experiment with different strategies however the down side of the FCP, poor rebounding was well on display as JW was slaughtered 60-31.

3 Pitama Tau Bell Park SuperCats 38 PTS 17 REB 15/20 FGS 17.0 rating, an impressive outing for the Aussie star.

2 Joan Ferrusola Bell Park SuperCats 27 PTS 16 REB 11/13 FGS, normally a MVP performance but Tau was just too awesome this match.

1 Joel Vulcan JW City Bulls. 17 PTS 11 AST 5 STE 16.0 rating. Yuan Xiangquan wanted the one point for his scoring but instead I went with Joel for a great all around performance.

Koopasaurus vs. Possum Chasers 87 - 59 (42320080)

Poor Possum Pete has to be the unluckiest player and when up against his opposite well what do you expect? Still Koop needed no luck here and had the horses to make this look easy even if star recruit $1.7 million man Stefano Arcuato looked average.

3 Wazza Kennerley Koopasaurus 18 PTS 6 REB 5 AST. Had to cover for the dissapointing Arc and never dissapoints.

2 Trinh Trinh Possum Chasers 20 PTS 22 REB. Dominated the Arc so much the coach benched him for Wazza.

1 Matt Mottram Koopasaurus 18 PTS. Snake eyes!

Pancakes with Jam and Cream vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 99 - 87 (42320083)

The game before Datzilla nearly threw away his ABBL season playing Duffill in a dead rubber, the Slim team is fat with quality players, however Pancakes always has guys of incredible quality and with Liang Huaizheng to slow the rock: Duffill they were able to control the game.

3 Liang Huaizheng Pancakes with Jam and Cream 29 PTS 15 REB. Rock, meet hard place.

2 Taylor Waterhouse Da Fat Boy Slim 35 PTS. It is players like Waterhouse that have given the team the depth they have always lacked before.

1 Mitchell Pearshouse Pancakes with Jam and Cream 17 REB. He doesn't pass but he does rebound and he can be yours for almost nothing right now.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 3

Pancakes with Jam and Cream vs. Black Label Society 99 - 132 (42320088)

A long match title but a short night for a lot of the BLS players who had finished this one by the third and had thoughts only of beating the Wombats. I don't know if Pancakes thought he could get some training minutes but playing Gerd Zero for 48 minutes at PG (1/11 FGS while his opponent McArthur had a game high score) wasn't the best strategic move. Overall it was a great shooting night for BLS hitting 50% of 3s and 52/96 FGs.

3 Shaun McArthur Black Label Society 24 PTS. Was seen standing over Gerd at one stage shouting, "Now you really are zero, you punk!"

2 Xavier Rodger Pancakes with Jam and Cream 32 PTS. 33 years old and only on a $40k salary but he was the one player who consistently scored hitting 13/18.

1 Grgur Fatur Black Label Society 15 PTS. Tough call for the 1 vote with Bell hitting 7/8 but in the end 20 rebounds against great rebounding opponents like Huaizheng is a great haul.

Bell Park SuperCats vs. Melbourne Goldfish 106 - 96 (42320091)

Well the 2/3 zone was always a risky move but then with Bell Park running and gunning it was a disaster however it was at the free throw line where the real damage was done with the SuperCats getting 34 free throws.

3 Gian Piero Della Corte 22 PTS 4 STE 17.5 rating. Xie a worry? Not when you have a $120k SG in proficient game shape. Corte easily won this matchup.

2 Radosław Rymer Melbourne Goldfish 29 PTS. For the second time it was Radoslaw that was the best Goldfish guard propelling him to the top 10 in the league in scoring.

1 Fang Yao Zhong Bell Park SuperCats 15 PTS 14 REB 5/7 FGS. Just the latest in a long line of players that have taken on the new Goldfish "star" Ofek and won easily. Ofek's quote has changed to, "Sure I was a star in España League ACBB the toughest league in the world and in the B3 for Spain's best team, but in Australia D2 I can't guard anyone or do anything but foul."

Geelong Vipers vs. Chumunga 82 - 72 (42320089)

A big upset here as Chumunga have won everything recently but probably had to smash their enthusiasm down to none to do it. Jahe was still his dominant self and had a great battle with Domingos, but the young trainees didn't turn up to play and Karp Kalachev...just wow!

3 Karp Kalachev Geelong Vipers 20 PTS 21 REB 8/8 FGS. A double double double and perfect from the floor would have been enough, but he kept Kozic to 7 points.

2 Gerd Jahe Chumunga 36 PTS 6 AST 5 REB. Is he the most expensive Fishbowl player this season at $4,200,000? He may be but he seems to be worth it. A do it all fiend who had a brilliant battle with Domingos.

1 Carlos Domingos Geelong Vipers 33 PTS. Great scoring but Jahe made him work hard for every point.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 3 Part 2

JW City Bulls vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 81 - 97 (42320090)

Two best friends but here on the cour tthey were rivals. Still Datzilla's elite ABBL squad featuring the much feared Hunter Hawthorn at PF were able to get the job done. This is a bit like Gortat behind Howard, once he got a chance he showed how good he was. Waterhouse and Relja Lauševic aren't bad either.

3 Taylor Waterhouse Da Fat Boy Slim 23 PTS 7 AST 10 REB. Hard to split the top few players but this near triple double was impressive.

2 Joel Vulcan JW All Stars 34 PTS 8 AST. Between the points and assists Joel had a hand in most of the teams offence for the match.

1 Hunter Hawthorn Da Fat Boy Slim 17 PTS 11 REB. Duffill who?

Whompas Donkeys vs. Koopasaurus 60 - 89 (42320087)

A great effort by the Donkeys kept them close to Koop and his All-Aussie team which was once again led by two time ABBL MVP and legend Donnell White while the Arc struggled yet again. For the Donkeys it was prolific scorer Dewey Bowers that tried to keep them in the game but just didn't have enough support.

3 Donnell White Koopasaurus 19 PTS 21 REB. The man, the legend!

2 Wazza Kennerley Koopasaurus 18 PTS. Back in the SF position he smothered his man keeping him to 2/10 shooting.

1 Dewey Bowers Whompas Donkeys 17 PTS. Tried hard but with team mates hitting 2/10, 1/10 and 1/11 it wasn't going to happen.

Possum Chasers vs. Chelsea Seagulls 99 - 85 (42320086)

The Seagulls hope this will be a division II winning squad but right now it doesn't look like a division III winning squad. New players Lawrance and Sperbert were brilliant, the old players were pathetic. For the Chasers who played Naker-style it was Gherardo Maci who was the damaging man slaughtering the Seagulls Hołówka. Funny that with their entire team playing 48 minutes that it was the exhausted Chasers that ran away with the game in the 4th after going into it all even.

3 Gherardo Maci Possum Chasers 27 PTS 6 AST 6 REB and a blanketing on his man.

2 Marko Sperbert Chelsea Seagulls 31 PTS. The scoring machine didn't just get his he shut down his man as well and currently leads the entire league in scoring by a wide margin.

1 Trinh Trinh Possum Chasers 21 PTS 8/11 FGS. Had the toughest battle of the night with Lawrance who had great stats but just couldn't stop TT scoring at such a high rate.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 4

JW City Bulls vs. Black Label Society 89 - 115 (42320095)

JW goes 2-3 and BLS goes run and gun. Blam! Despite this JW put in a solid effort not getting totally blown out by the ABBL Semi-finalist.

3 Gary Howorth Black Label Society 24 PTS 6 AST. A great effort and a coin toss between him and McArthur for MVP. Howarth rebounded less but shot better and fouled less, but McArthur got to the free throw line like a small Dwight Howard. Heads.

2 Shaun McArthur Black Label Society 28 PTS 5 AST 5 REB. Fantastic effort. Tails. Sorry.

1 Jarrod Corica JW City Bulls 20 PTS 4 AST.

Bell Park SuperCats vs. Chumunga 103 - 82 (42320096)

Chumunga was faced with a virtual five on one match and with enthusiasm still around negative 12 they didn't have much chance and should have just gone through the motions. But someone forgot to tell Gerd Jahe.

3 Gian Piero Della Corte Bell Park SuperCats 39 PTS 18.0 rating. One of the ABBL's best guards not that often you see someone who played 40 minutes at SG get an 18.0!

2 Gerd Jahe Chumunga Gerd 55 point, the rest of the team 27. And did it against Pitama Tau! Wow!

1 Kamilis Fedorcukas Bell Park SuperCats 22 PTS 11 REB. A guy with way too much jump range and atrocious inside shot but can flat out defend. Got 11 rebounds while playing SF with only respectable REB, go figure.

Whompas Donkeys vs. Possum Chasers 95 - 77 (42320092)

Two division III teams with promotion aspirations, but looking at this match I will be putting my money on the Donkeys this season. If it wasn't for the Donkey's massive foul count this would have been a blowout.

3 Dewey Bowers Whompas Donkeys 52 PTS 14.0 rating. Some disappointing efforts so far this season but we knew eventually this scoring machine would explode.

2 Arturo Sbaraglia Possum Chasers 21 PTS 13 REB. A huge gap between the top and the second top players and when TT could only get 6 rebounds Arturo had to do everything.

1 Medartas Tvarijanavicius Whompas Donkeys Totally kept TT off the boards.

Fishbowl East MVPs Season 7 Week 4 Part 2

Melbourne Goldfish vs. Da Fat Boy Slim 67 - 92 (42320097)

Duffman is back. Waterhouse is still owning all. The Goldfish experimented with some really unusual tactics trying to channel Team Lordy. Fail!

But Skyhooks making this one of the games fo the round instead of Seagulls vs Pancakes, EPIC FAIL!

3 Kye Duffill Da Fat Boy Slim 19 PTS Guess who's back. Back again. Duffman's back. Tell a friend.

2 Ofek Kabilio Melbourne Goldfish 22 PTS 14 REB. Ofek would probably argue that he outplayed Duffman, scoring more, at a higher rate and with double the rebounds but he couldn't bring the win.

1 Taylor Waterhouse Da Fat Boy Slim 14 PTS 17.0 rating. Urmammas must have been totally insane to sell this beast, this is the monster who has changed everything for Da Fat Boy Slim!

Geelong Vipers vs. Koopasaurus 81 - 95 (42320094)

A great effort by the Vipers with scores level at the half with the Vipers winning the rebound battle with the ARC disappointing again. But a decline in the second with Koop hitting all sore of crazy 3 pointers (11/24 to 0/10) behind NT player and legend Wazza got them over the line.

3 Wazza Kennerley Koopasaurus 31 PTS 7 REB. Wazzzaup?

2 Sam Rosales Geelong Vipers. 23 PTS of 9/12 shooting, very efficient.

1 Alfred Rooney Koopasaurus 16 PTS. Efficient as always finding the right players in the Princeton.

Pancakes with Jam and Cream vs. Chelsea Seagulls 135 - 138 (42320093)

How did Skyhook not make this the game of the round? This was one of the most thrilling games ever. Overtime, pssht, this was quadruple OT. Honestly I would be exhausted trying to describe the ebbs and flows in this epic match that C-Cat and I both watched live. Incredible comebacks, buzzer beaters, full court alley oop dunks. Crazy!

Final 1 2 3 4 1OT 2OT 3OT 4OT Total
Pancakes with Jam and Cream 23 26 26 21 11 10 10 8 135
Chelsea Seagulls 23 18 36 19 11 10 10 11 138

We discussed who could be the MVP after the game and it was hard with so many amazing highlights and incredible plays. In the end we went with:

3 Gary Lawrance Chelsea Seagulls 28 REB. The Seagulls had a one big man lineup, if Lawrance didn't get the carom then Pancakes would.

2 Xavier Rodger Pancakes with Jam and Cream One of the most incredible plays ever.

1 Marko Sperbert Chelsea Seagulls 51 PTS is nothing special for the scoring freak who leads the league by almost 10 PPG but he fouled out in the 4th leaving others to finish the job.

Honorable Mention: Elliott Watton Pancakes with Jam and Cream. With players fouling out, being injured, being benched and being close to lucky fans on court 34 year old $6k Watton stepped onto the court and had 5 steals, 5 assists and 7 rebounds!
