Yeah, like E.B.W. said, when you lose a lot, the fans respond by not showing up. This is especially the case with bleacher and lower tier sales; they are very sensitive to recent wins and losses. If priced correctly, the LB and courtside seats should be more stable, though losing every game (which means every TV game, every rivalry game), will erode their attendance.

One thing to note, is that this season you'll have an extra penalty to attendance for the first half to two-thirds of the season. Just as there is a bonus to attendance when you promote, there's a penalty when you relegate. That probably explains part of the poor attendance from your first game this season. You'll have to do your best to win away games, and TV/rivalry games, in order to keep your fan survey as high as possible.

I would guess that it was your drop from getting to the playoffs in season 17 to 5th place in season 18. That would probably reduce your "Happy with team's performance last season" part of the fan survey. Maybe it was enough for things to start poorly in season 19. Then all the losing took hold, and the fans really weren't keen on paying for games.

AGAIN, this is not about my team as I have played this game long enough and anticipated the lose and made adjustments to counter it. I am just curious if others have experienced this as in my D 3 league it was a common topic as others there even winning teams were experiencing strange ticket sales. I have been playing since season 7, so understand and am familiar with bad seasons.

In terms of attendance in general, I've used the arena pricing helper on the USA offsite since season 17, and found it to be pretty much right on target. I was sure to increase prices over the suggested rate in seasons where I promoted. But it was spot on for pricing after the promotion bonus wore off, and for the first home game this season.

One potentially important factor might be PR guy level. I've been rolling with decent PR guys for some time, so maybe low level PR guys are much less effective? I've never really seen serious analysis about the effect of PR guy level.
