Whilst this topic is still on the first page, allow me to tell you what's really stupid about the draft, or at least more stupid than what you thought was stupid...

Players with 5 ball skills that only have 1 ball potential when you interview them. Seriously, who on earth reaches the peak of their careers at age 18?

it happens all the time in real life... players look like superstars when they are young, and then never fail to make an impact when they get to the big time, if they get there..

I recently read a story about an English footballer who was supposed to be gods gift to football at the age of 16-17, 5 years later he is a chef....

when it comes to BB, i would think 80% of players have reached their potential at 18, cause they simply dont get trained :D

Well a few corrections. First those 5/1 players haven't reached their peak, you can feel free to train them, depending on how low the potential they probably could have a full season of training in them. Then to make things even more complex you know you can train players beyond their cap right? One of our Aussie legend trainers Robhoe of the Western Titans has been doing it for seasons with Udi Samdup who gets trained every time the team does two position training. His estimation is that it is 3-4 times as slow as normal.

Now the problem is that players normally hit their cap at ages 22-25 when their training slows down anyway, so if they are training at 1/3 speed, then cap and are at 1/4 of that you could train them for an entire season and not see a pop. Most people will stop long before that.

However if you trained a 5/1 18 year old for a season and capped them and really wanted to you could keep on training them. At age 19 instead of about 10-12 pops he would be getting 2-4 but still a lot. It is always funny to search the TL for low potential guys. There are a few $7,000+ role players for sale and 17 x $12,000+ 6th men certainly good enough for division IV teams or division III backups. There is even a guard with wondrous OD.

But don't take this as me advocating training low potential guys. The biggest mistake I made in this game was training low potential guys at the start. Now I only train superstar + potential.

I thought even superstar was to low for your league, or is that only if you want them to make the NT?

Superstar is my minimum for guys i actually want to train, but if i think i can get a perennial all-star and train as a 3rd-4th option and make a quick buck out of em, (buy for less than 10k, sell for 100+) i am happy to do that!

Superstar is fine for the ABBL but if you want a guy to make the NT then unless he is very unusual MVP is the target. However potentials have sublevels too so the top of superstar is almost the same as the bottom of MVP.
