Great idea - Basically they could just use the same criteria that they use for end of season MVP, so that at least its consistent through the season.

There's a post from Charles somewhere (I assume Manon will link to it if asked) that talks about how the MVP is selected, and it boils down to there being a "writer" who watches the games at each arena and his vote is based on some criteria - so a side effect of this process is that in theory there is already everything needed for this in place. If this happens while the game is actually ongoing, hopefully they could hook in the determination of the best player based on that writer's vote into the boxscore somewhere, or at worst maybe a separate league news item (since I don't think anything like this is occurring for scrimmages/Cup games as yet).

yup exactly why i suggested it. Use existing criteria, means uses existing code.
The downside would mean that people may be able to predict the winner of the MVP by seasons end. which would take a bit of gloss off of that.
BUT it may mean that some users will maybe try to get their players to win the MVP award and as such, will introduce an extra element of strategy into the game, albeit a minor one.

Plus it would spark many a debate over 'how on earth did my guy who only scored 10 points and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes get the MVP for the game' discsussions... which is always good :)
