What if you buy a player and he is from another country but gets placed in the NT. Do you still get an increase in Merch?

i think i can help a bit in this topic.. last year i sold out all my foreigner players and bought local players..

before sale my merchandise was between 18000 and 21000. after that move it jumped to 35000, and now is 40000. i have only one foreign player (trainee). my league average is 28000.

I think the best way to approach this is just treat the extra merchandise income like a reduction in salary when searching for new players. So if you are trying to decide between a native and non-native on the transfer list, for a USA D4 team I would deduct around 2k from the native player's salary and then compare them like normal.

The only difference is that other managers won't consider this deduction in salary when you sell the player (or more precisely the amount they will consider this deduction is small and proportional to country size).

It helps some - I've consistently had merchandise at around 125-150% of the league average with an American-focused roster (and now that my Canadian player is gone, it's an all-American club). On the other hand, a lot of that is also that there are several players who play regularly for me who have been on my roster for seasons.

While there is a financial benefit, where it might really be useful is teaching patience in TL dealings. If you can make yourself wait for only American players you're less likely to make a bad impulse buy on a guy who's not nearly as good. Set high standards for secondary skills and try to focus on solely Americans and you'll rarely end up buying someone and immediately regretting it.
