I would add to this that it should be a bit more clear to newer players that they don't need top level trainers.

Like being fooled by HoF and MVP potential, it can be easy for a newer player to splash a million on a top trainer when they dont need to. Which pushes up the prices and massively harms their finances/future in the game.

I will join the chorus on this one. Until a new player has a GOOD grip on things (that can take some time...), it will for most be a waste of money for a potential they never reach anyway.

What if?: the manager checklist is tweaked on the point that makes you post in the forum.

So, instead of posting in a dead division forum you they post in a welcome forum/welcome thread (maybe in the national forums or the helpforum) . From there they can be welcomed and get feedback from anyone interested in the BB world, not just the GM's. Then they can get advice from several viewpoints, and decide on their own course from there. It think it could help with building a better community spirit as, help take some of the workload of the GM/BB's and make it more interesting for the veterans as well.

We, the moderation, often see newcomers fullfilling that part of the checklist on the Global forum or Help. Their messages are "." or "hi" or "yay" or similar things.
Exactly, that's why I think a welcome thread could be a better place to post. In my nation at least, you can post in a division forum and it may take years before anyone notice, if at all. So they don't get any feedback or impression. Getting to learn the game is time consuming. In the early days there was a lot of interesting threads to follow (The whole Josef Ka project for instance) and a lot of information spread out here and there. It is probably still there somewhere, but as time goes by some things drown in the forums and some things get outdated. So, for a new player to get the hang of things it is, I bbelieve getting in touch with the community will help involve them more. There is of course the mentorship thread, if they know where to look, but it demands a proactive move.

Anyway, to steer this back on topic, how can we help new players realize they don't need HallofFamers and lvl 5-7 trainers from the get-go?

No one should be forced. That just makes people angry. My proposal (more of an unfinished idea) aims to reach all those that don't read the full totorial and all the important information (reading all important information is impossible, considering the mass of information that lies hidden in posts throughout the forums history). That's why Community effort is king.

There is a lot of knowledge and experience amassed over years and years, among current managers. Some of them are willing to give good advice on concrete cases and on a team for team basis. The questions I had regarding changes made while I were away, were quickly answered in my national forum, but I knew where to post to get good answers.

As Manon said, and I agree, that for new teams that can't afford the top training prospects it is a lot to gain by training medium potential players with medium trainers, until they have money, experience and a good prospect. By taking advantage of this, the pressure on a thin high-level trainer market would go down.

I don't think that is enough to solve the lack of trainers by itself, and the message can be hard to get across on a grand scale. There is seldom 1 ultimate solution, but I believe discussing back and forth, considering options, pros and cons, and be generally open minded to different solutions, have a greater chance of getting some viable options across.

If I can't buy players due to my world rank, there could be limitations regarding coaches too.
