Pretty cool idea, makes sense in the BB world and real world.

I would maybe suggest that there's a depreciation in % for every star you have. for example

1st star: 25% of salary as merch
2nd star: 20% of salary as merch
3rd star: 15% of salary

And so on and so forth.

In reality the team only has so many fans, even if you've got a great starting 5 your fans aren't gonna buy a jersey of every high salary player in your team. They'll only buy merch from their favourite player.

All in all good premise.

The concept sounds good.

This alternative too, if it's not too much, of course:

1st star: 25% of salary as merch
2nd star: 20% of salary as merch
3rd star: 15% of salary

And so on and so forth.

If you add 10% to the 4th top player and 5% to the 5th one, you'd have a medium 15% for your "supposedly" starting five or, at least, 15% of your 5 top players, which should be around half the whole squad.

Fair enough (thanks for the added info, btw).

In favor.

More so in the deeper rosters aspect, for sure.

As you mentioned, if it has a smaller but positive impact in the game, that can be furthered by other changes, sounds good. Makes it more balanced and versatile, while more difficult to dominate easily (all good).

In my opinion, the difference between higher salary and lower salary is too much. For example, 200k is 4 times greater than 50k. The former is 30k bonus, but the latter is only 7.5k bonus. It is too little.
How about using this kind of formula:
Let x be the salary of their top salary player.
Bonus = a*x^b+c, where 0 < b < 1 ?

For example, Bonus = 67*x^0.5
67*200k^0.5 = 29963
67*50k^0.5 = 14982

Higher salaries and latest requirement for extended roster generate wide team with average players.
The superstars with high salary that went through huge training investments worth nothing these days. Bonus that motivate keeping such players specifically is critical.
Using your formula i would put b = 2 to properly address that.
