Oh I like it.
Arguing on another forum that Boston would have been better off sticking with Perk and just letting him leave. I'd say that their window is this season, cannot see them doing much post this one.

What the trade tells me is this: Boston don't really rate Orlando, nor do they envisage themselves meeting them in the playoffs. If they did, they wouldn't make this trade.
With it, they're marginally better against Miami than they were... maybe.
But the rise of the Bulls could really throw a spanner in this for them, as if the standings stay as are, then Boston well might meet Orlando in the second round. And that could be quite a tough match up... depending on how the Magic's shooters fair.

They must be planning on resting Shaq for most of the regular season and just hoping like hell he's healthy for the finals. I think Jeff Green is a fairly underrated defender too. I think once he gets use to the Boston system, he'll fit in just fine.

so you mean, instead of having Perkins guarding Howard, they preferred Green for guarding Bosh?

They also signed Murphy who is a pretty decent guy, but not a post defender in the middle. he is actually a PF, so again they will go undersized against Orlando , or even Lakers [if they reach the finals].

Not quite.
In a fully fit Boston, both Murphy and Green are back-ups. And that's part of what surprised me on the trade: they shifted a starting center for a back-up forward.
And despite Green being underrated (by some), he will get eaten alive by starting 4s in the East.

They were going to lose Perkins anyway. Personally I think Perk is overrated, and not nearly worth 9 mil a year. Like half of that.

Green should be a SF like he used to be. If he is going to struggle vs the 4s in the East, just think how eaten up he would be vs the better 4s in the west.

The only issue with that is that this is probably the BEST opportunity that the Celtics have left. Why mess with that?

And you believe Perkins is the key to their success?

I believe that they were doing well, and you shouldn't mess with something that's not broken. There are two other Celtics that play Dwight well. Sheed and Shaq. Sheed's gone, and Shaq? Well... he's injured, an uncertainty, and 39 years of age. Best case scenario, you're getting Shaq for half a game in the playoffs.
You really want to put Krstic or Davis on Howard for the other half?

Shaq does not play Howard well, not this year at least.

On Dec. 25th Celts and Magic squared off.

Howard had 33 mins, 6 pts, 11 RB (1 OR), 5 fouls, 5 blocks and 4 TOs

Davis had 39 Mins mostly at C, 16 pts, 8 RB (4 OR), 4 fouls, only 2 TOs. He was +5
Shaq had 13 mins and was -13
Jermain 10 mins, -5
Perkins was hurt

Orlando won this game withh a big comeback but motly because Rondo was hurt, and Allen and Robinson shot 5-28 combined.

Again on 1/17.

Howard went off. like 33 pts and shot well
Shaq had 26 mins and was -10
Davis had 15 pts 2 asst, 2 blocks and was +5 in 31 mins
Perkins was hurt

Boston won on some late game heroics by KG

And finally on 2/6
Howard went 10-20 with 28 pts and 13 RB (3 OR)

Perkins had 0 pts (0-5) 13 RB 1OR) 3 assists and 2 blocks

Boston won this game too.

Other than KG, Davis is the only big man to have had any success vs Orlando so far this year, so yeah go with Davis. Orlando has Howard but fortunately for the rest of the league this is a 5 on 5 game. I think Boston is pretty much a team of 4 all-stars and....oh yeah...a Center anyway. They have plenty of time to figure it out before the playoffs.
