Good point. If we can already see the majority of the 4's and 5's, our chances of landing a 3 or better are diminished.

Here's what I've got from my scouts:

Nine 5's
Three 4's
Five 3's
Nine 2's
Two 1's

I wonder if each grade of player is alloted nine players, and then 3 more random guys are tossed in to give us the 48 players in the draft. Would a BB like to comment? :)

If that's the case, (and that's a big IF) I've got a better chance to get a 1 than a 4, but a better chance to get a 4 than a 3.

Anyone else get more than 9 in one grade of player?

I don't know if that's a fair question. For those teams that "owned" their teams all season, and could scout the whole season, you should have more "visible" ratings. Those of us who have only been here for 5-6 weeks or less, may have fewer visibles. Of my 48 slots, I have 27 with some rating and 10 with all four columns with data.
I have eleven 5's (four with A+ grades), six 4's, five 3's, three 2's, and two 1's...that leaves 21 "unknowns"...

the way I understand it, is depending on how much was invested in scouting by the other 15 teams in my series, we should have the same "players", but different information on each slot. Some might see slot "1", some might not. With so many 5's visible to me, I'm guessing that the majority of the "unknowns" are going to be 2's and 1's. I would imagine the distribution of the 5 start levels is probably similar across each series, but I would hope that it isn't equally divided among the 5. That doesn't seem too realistic (not that it has to be!!). With eleven 5's for me, that exceeds the "avg." of 9.6 for each star ranking (48/5=9.6), so there should be a significant number of the "unknowns" down at the bottom of the ranking scale in my series......

Again, because of the differences in scouting budgets, etc. every team is going to have different data visible. You just have to use a little logic and common sense to figure out where to rank those "unknown" players........

I think it would be interesting to see if anyone had rankings for all of their players. More interesting if two people had rankings for all of their players, so we could get an idea of the variations that are possible.

I got 36 players ranked.
Eight 5s
Seven 4s
Ten 3s
Nine 2s
Two 1s

Also, for those interested, here are the 10 grades I have:
One A+
One A
Two B+
One C+
One C
Three C-
One D

I believe the quantity of players available with each level is different, and possibly random (with probably certain boundries). Just to continue helping everyone's analisys, I invested on scouting 3 players per week the whoel season and I got:

8 fives
9 fours
5 unknown
8 threes
14 twos (absurd !!!)
4 ones

I'm just glad that I don't see my A+ guy on your list. :)

For the players that I have got no scouting information on I put after my 4 star players as I have a 3/5 chance they will be 3 or above

Your 3/5 chance assumes that the players are equally distributed between 1-5. Is this what is actually observed in reality?

If they use an even distribution formula to determine a players skill then it will be similar to a random calculation.

Think about flipping a coin 1000 times, even though there might be not exactly 500 heads and 500 tails overall the difference is very likely to be small. Natural distribution of odds. ,)

well, I got 14 level 2's to go against that theory.

But anyway, I also use "5,4,-,3,2,1" as you, but my reason is not mathematical but practical: levels lower then 4 have no place in my team, so I rather risk with even a 1% chance than taking a 3.

well it is dependant on they use weighted random or not

by the looks of mine there is a balanced between 5s,4s,3s,2s
9 - 5s
9 - 4s
12 - 3s
9 - 2s
2 -1s
7 - unknowns

Because there is a low number in the sample the balance will not necessarily be visible.

Mathematically odds with current knowledge of the generation system (which is nothing except some sort of random) gives a 3/5 chance they will be 3stars or more.

if from 5 til 2 is balanced then I might have a great chance of my random ones being 3 or higher, sine i alreayd got 14 2's.

Does eveybody have a very small quantity of 1s?

I do...here is my breakdown:
7-5's
12-4's
9-3's
7-2's
2-1's
11-unknowns

Granted I do have a good amount of unknowns.

I invested $10000 last week (only been playing a week), and I got the following:

7 x 5's
8 x 4's
5 x 3's
3 x 2's
1 x 1

And a huuuge list (23) of -'s! But that's ok, I'd say that's pretty generous for one weeks investment.

Of the above ratings, 5 had grades. 2 A's, 1 B-, 1 C+ and 1 C-.
