Has anyone tried that against a zone defense? In theory this should only work against a Man to Man, right? In a zone defense a decent perimeter defender could take over to defend the Dirk´s and Channing´s and you can´t create that kind of mismatch.

well, yes and no. If you have four good outside shooters and play against a 3-2 zone, one guy will be open most of the time.

Another useful study would be to find out how Patient (when there is only one player playing out of position) works against a Box and One tactic.

From my understanding, the Box-and-One tactic should be the best one against a Patient tactic, where one player dominates.

my next project would be testing Patient with five guards, as i think it would work like a charm, but i only have three guards..


This will be very dificult on the defensive end. ID and REB will be given up.

I´ve just tried a "light version" of your style in my latest PL game (35660889). My outside orientated SF played as C, and I switched my PF and C one position away from the basket. But it didn´t work out as expected, my SF-Center took a lot less shots than I hoped and he had 8-17 shots, which doesn´t look like he really dominated his opposing C. Maybe I should try it with my SG next time to see if it works better.

Another 2 examples from Slovakia.

1. This one happened against me in my League game. (33310725)

The PF was 25-28 at one point. The PF was no 'SG playing at the PF position' but a regular PF, with quite high JS and driving skills I would assume.

2. Is a very extreme example of Patient. (33313195)

Too bad he did not hit 100 points. Would have been nice to see.

it looks like you need more secondary defensive skills when you are playing a zone defense in Buzzerbeater


in my opinion the shotblocking-skill of your frontcourt helps a lot when playing 3-2.

I am in love with this offense, it took me a long time to realize that this is not an offense that aims for long posessions that end with 80-90 points scored (thats what I expected from the name).

Looks like this is the real isolation tactic.
