So I've been reading this thread with fascination the past few days...partly because I've been in the middle of training a superstar guard and most of his guard skills are pretty even and I've been debating what to train next. [actually, at the start of this week, I was training jumpshot, but switched it to OD after reading the first part of this thread ;)]

My question then is this: what does your ideal guard look like? Obviously this will differ based on league, but a good generalized description would help those of us trying to figure out the basis of your argument.

I like guards who could play on both Guard position, and are only a bit specialisied. Which means a ideal SG maybe have 10-20% less Passing then my ideal PG, and thats also the difference in Shooting skills betwen them.

OD should always be on of the top skills of a guard, even when i am not with moutlinho that OD 20 guard are totally dominating, i am more with Wolph here let it close to the other guard skills. JS is also a high skill for me, and even at the PG spot the same or slightly higher then Passing, Jr is around 20% less then JS. Driving isn't that much important for me when i buy player, but it is an good training(especially when you do it off position) and you train it as a secondary nearly every week so you get it anyway. I rate Handling a bit lower then Passing and like 'em with secondaries.

Maybe you could follow my thought easier when i put them on a scala
, where 100% is the max skill:

JS: 100% JR: 80-90%
OD: 100% HN: 80%
DR: 70% PS: 90%

Secondary depends also a bit on the level of the player, my starting guards have an average close to 7 in that skills which i find pretty good, but the decline of the value of the skills isn't that big then at the primary skills because the skills of the matchup nearly don't change betwen the leagues.

PS: slightly up for a Pointguard on the cost of his shooting skills , or PS a bit down for extra shooting skills and maybe some D for the SG.

My ideal SG...
Jump Shot: prodigious(16) Jump Range: prodigious(16)
Outside Def.: colossal(19) Handling: wondrous(14)
Driving: sensational(12) Passing: strong(8)
Inside Shot: strong(8) Inside Def.: strong(8)
Rebounding: strong(8) Shot Blocking: mediocre(5)
Stamina: strong Free Throw: strong

this will cost you 227K a week....but it is worth every penny.
BTW...before I hear all the ,"only strong passing on a SG" responses....I have high passing at PG and SF, this guy is my go to guy, I don't want him passing up too many shots...

Could You change designations of skills to numeric? Because I don't know english names, meanwhile numbers are universal.

Jump Shot: A better shooter will make more shots at all distances.
and
Jump Range: A player with a higher jump range will find that the effectiveness of his jump shot decreases less with distance.

So, if this is the case....Let's take two players....a 19 JS 13 JR and another player 16 JS 16 JR (let's say IS and driving are the same)...they are both getting "D"ed up by a 15OD....my questions are
1st...When does the 16/16 guys shot surpass the 19/13? ( I think about 20 feet out) I used to have two players just like this and the 19/13 would light it up from 15 feet in and he would bust 3's but not like the 16/16 guy.
2nd...If the 19/13 guy is 60K less a week than the 16/16 guy, wouldn't it be better to have the 19/13?
Here are two guys from last season....1st guy is the 19/13 and the second is the 16/16 and I ran motion 9 times last season and run and gun 6 times followed by PTB and base O
Games....Minutes.........FGs.........FG%............3's..........3%
....17.........34.4.........116-270......0.430........27-73......0.370
....13.........36.9..........84-214.......0.393........24-77 .....0.312
Now there is a disclaimer...the 16/16 guy has level 19 OD and played most games at SG where he faced better OD where the 19/13 guy had level 16 OD and player 9 games at SF where he face worse OD.

16 JS is nothing special for a 200k SG so he isn't that great.

My ideal guard would be like this

Jump Shot: legendary(20) Jump Range: wondrous(14)
Outside Def.: legendary(20) Handling: stupendous(17)
Driving: phenomenal(19) Passing: sensational(12)
Inside Shot: proficient(9) Inside Def.: proficient(9)
Rebounding: atrocious(1) Shot Blocking: respectable(7)

Waaaaaay better player for 219k.
