And why do NT coaches, especially U21 coaches care about salaries?

Players get MORE expensive and QUICKER if you rotatet IS, Reb., ID instead of IS, Reb, ID, SB.

I kind of feel like a lot of U21 managers take advantage of the managers playing trainers, no offense to you U21 managers out there because I don't know how you run things. That being said, at least in the US most of the U21 prospects are being trained by managers in the D.4 or D.5, and I think this is for two reasons. 1) They can focus more on training in the lower divisions and 2) They have less experience, and therefore easier to trick. I feel like these U21 managers don't inform the managers what's going to happen, and once there salary begins to hit 100k+ they are not prepared. It's really a shame too, for managers begin to get very upset about the price they are getting for the player after years and years of economical decline. In my opinion, the U21 managers should tell the managers training players exactly what will happen if they are unaware, so they can go out and make the decisions for themselves. These are just my thoughts...

Well part of the problem was that the player in question had low potential and they wanted to not "waste" it on SB.

So though potential doesn't work the same way that salary does, it still seems that SB "costs" less also in filling potential.

Interesting. You would save a significant amount of money training a player like player 2, both for buying a player off the TL because of the lower POT needed and the weekly salary.

Though player two may be very weak on the offensive side, I would take his defensive skills over Player 1's any day.

While player #2 looks awesome for a lot of teams the trouble is most teams and especially NTs want the flexibility to be able to vary their inside/outside attacks, and the sad fact is that a lot of teams just want to run LI 95% of the time.

Atleast I do agree, NTs can have specialists for different tactics and opponents (and all-around players too), but most of club teams cannot. The options: You can have a many-sided wide-ranging roster with which you change the tactic for every game and perhaps play a lot of base offense. But that is pretty difficult and the more common solution is to specialise in a couple of tactics. The question is in which tactics should you specialise. Perhaps an inside defence orientated team might work well for most teams run LI offense as we've noticed. And as many people writing in this thread seem to agree, shot blocking is the key to succesful inside defence. And its cheaper than IS.
