Season review

After the already finished season, it's time to look at some points.
During this season I track the points, rebounds etc of our guys. But that's not the only stats I watched. After every game I made a analysis of the defense. It's an important indicator for the team and for me.

Team defense
I calculate the team defense like this:

All shot attempts from opposing team: 106
All open shot attempts: 51

--> 55 defended shot attempts
successful defended shots: 22

--> successful rate: 22/55 = 40%

I made this for every of the seven games:
40% ; 50,94% ; 55,56% ; 60% ; 56,6% ; 63,64% and 62,3% --> average of the seven games: 55,01%
So 55% of the defended shots were blocked or altered. 45% went in or ended with a shooting foul.
The top teams are around 55-60%, so from a defensive point ov view, our team is already on a good way.

This brings me to another point:
I never saw a team like the swedish NT. The amount of defense skills is great. You trained your players in a way which leads to huge possibilities of defense tactics. I really like the fact, that you have Guards with double digit ID or bigs with double digit OD who can even defend some guards and forwards. From a defense standpoint you only have to give some players (or future players) a final touch and they will be awesome. Really great work!!!

I also took a look at the "real defense". The real defense is the success rate compaired to all shots. 724 shots were taken against us and we defended 236 (32,73%) of these shots successful. Here we should aim for 35%+.

Players defense
This season 12 players defended all the shot attempts. Six of these players have a success rate of over 60%.
Coming from these stats, I would like to express some skill wishes (for future players or your current plans/trainees).

- For PF and C, ID 17 is a must. For offense typs IS 17 also.
- A defensive player like Widerström should be build again. I tink he showed how great his skill set is and that such a player can contribute a lot. Gijon is on his way, but he has a slightly different skill set and focus.
- WE NEED GUARDS! Simple as it is, we have a great lack of SGs. Guys with JS 17+ and JR 17+ and the "swedish defense" ;)
- Stamina... you know how to train it. Thanks that your players have such high stamina. This is one of the reasons why the defense ratings could survive for 48 minutes.
- SB. The last point is SB, a skill which is already part of the NT but could be used more. Not every player needs it (guards who start with SB 1 or 2 shouldn't train it) but it helps SF, PF and C to defend more effective. Widerström and Sandbom showed us how they can use their SB skills ;)

Thanks for this season and your work (minutes, game shape, even some skill ups). From the current point we climbed up 12 world ranks and made a solid foundation for the next weeks. On Monday we will play against Greece. They are the best european team which couldn't qualify for the next round. So I expect a hard and difficult game.

The first scrimmage is played and we won against Greece.
Unfortunately scrimmages don't give a lot of WR points so let us see what will happen.

We had a really strong offense and rebounding. The starters played more minutes than I hoped but we will see if I find a way how to manage it better.

On monday we will play against Portugal. I will test something new. I don't know if it will be successful, but it is necessary.

Second scrimmage played and won

Today I tried an Inside Isolation. Funny coincidence: Portugal had the same idea.
But compaired to Portugal I had another thinking behind the tactic. I used Widerström as the C. Most of you know that there are better choices but my idea was: use his passing. The thing behind Iso Inside is that one of the inside players starts a play. He will try to score or pass the ball. So I hoped, that Widerström would pass and pass and pass and sometimes block.
Unfortunately he took 12 shot attempts, luckily he scored 5 of them. But what's more important: he had 8 assists and 4 blocks. Plus 11 rebounds. He was on a good way to achieve a triple double.
Sandbom was the perfect partner for Widerström today. He finished with 30 points on a 14-17 (82,4%) shooting! It was like he had the whole paint for himself. I hope it was thanks to the great passes of Widerström and Martinsson.

Our defense was really strong again. 12 and 11 as ratings and we hold Portugal to 34-93 (36,6%) FG and only 1-23 (4,3%) 3pt. Our 47,7% weren't that strong, but it was good.

Next week we will play against Norway... Let's see what I will try against them
