This may be a surprise, but outside offenses sometimes have guys who are supposed to have good chances to score based on their skills and matchup, and have good PP100 ratings based on that, who still go out and shoot 25% or less. On the bright side, while outside shooting teams have that disadvantage, and the disadvantage in training speeds and in salary costs, at least they don't get the benefits of additional rebounding or FTs like an LI team does! =P~
There are 19 shot events in the game that I know of. I think more analysis is needed to understand what works and what doesn't for an outside offense. Personally I would like to see team rating defense on open shots reduced and that will help outside teams and teams that sacrifice shooting for flow. I'm pretty sure this would help outside oriented teams and, in any case, it makes no sense that a guarded shot has higher chance to go in than an open one.
I almost have all the play-by-play of the 176 EBBL games (for some reason I can never get all 176 in one go, some are always missing) from s39 split by single event with defender, outcome, etc, then I will start running some checks on defense and type of shot. I expect some shots to have higher FG% than others of course and some shots to be more frequent than others. Interestingly there are 3 type of putbacks and I assume some may have different FG%.
These are the shots anyway and the way I think they are categorised (the one I'm not sure of is fade away, as it is probably in between a jump shot and an inside shot):
CORNER_THREE, 3 pointer
WING_THREE, 3 pointer
STRAIGHT_ON_THREE, 3 pointer
VERY_LONG, 3 pointer
HALF_COURT_SHOT, 3 pointer
WING, Jump Shot
TOPKEY, Jump Shot
ELBOW, Jump Shot
BASELINE_J, Jump Shot
SPINNY, Jump Shot
FALL_AWAY, Jump Shot?
DRIVING_LAYUP, Layup
LAYUP, Layup
HOOK, Inside shot
STRONG, Inside shot
DUNK, Dunk (DUNK_MISSED, Dunk)
PUTBACK, Putback
TIPBACK, Putback
TIPBACKDUNK, Putback
FREE_THROW_MADE, FT (FREE_THROW_MISSED, FT)
I'll take this to another thread. I will try to add tactics to it but that information is not on the pbp.
