Yeah, you probably made the right choice. Nothing you can do when perennial all-star to ATG are all lumped together. Hopefully you at least get a superstar this time around.

I'm sure it's better to draft & develop a player in terms of merchandise... but I wonder exactly how big a difference there is between that & an American you buy off the TL? (Or a foreign NT player). BTW, How is your merchandise revenue now? Way over league average? Or not much above average? Since Liu and Gosling are your main stars, i wonder...

Yeah, I really don't think there's that much of a difference between American drafted/TL players. It's just a preference. Yeah, it takes longer to re-build, but it keeps me satisfied, and also, it adds an interesting aspect to the game -- drafting can be fun.

My revenue is declining week by week. It was a little over 200K and is near 195K. Although, I'm putting 40K into the draft (and have a 40K trainee that I need to replace) so its at 155K. I might go mid-season till I stop putting money into the draft, or once I find a few stud prospects. Many other Gm's would cringe at the thought of investing so much money into the draft, but I feel it can be rewarding, too. It's a gamble for sure -- one that I've lost so far -- but It would be rewarding to acquire a trainee worth 2m+.

Meant just the merchandise revenue. (for example... league average is only $50k)
Like... was wondering if you were maybe up near $100k in merchandise revenue. Even despite your record this season. Or conversely, if having drafted your own stars didn't help much & you were around the league average?

It's probably not a horrible idea investing in the draft this season. You'll get your first choice & quite possibly a decent 2nd round player. (Who knows, maybe even a lower skilled, high potential guy in round 3!) And like you said, there's the whole enjoyment aspect of it too.

But just in general: (not talking about your situation...)
I've definitely sided with not spending $ on the draft school of thought. (purely in terms of cost/benefit). Haven't looked in a very long time, but trainable draft picks were always winnable on the TL for even under $10k. With very decent draftees at under $50k. Sure, they weren't ATGs with all skills respectable & a $6k starting salary... But were players plenty sufficient for the vast majority of teams looking to train & keep a player. (even more so for d5,d4, & d3 teams). Of course the type of player you're hoping for would cost a fortune on the TL however!

Wow, i pretty much wrote off my last game as a loss! Got away with all backups & less effort!!
Not even my top backup team... starting SG's injured so had to go 1 backup deeper. Plus backups weren't in optimal GS. So it's a pretty nice surprise. (The one week / year having a huge roster payed off!)

The negative:
Of course my d3 cup opponent threw their last game & just picked up a $55k guy in *proficient* GS. And will quite possibly CT me at their place. So now i need to waste enthusiasm & screw up minutes again. sigh...

(and i'm now retroactively mad that i didn't get to see an Alas vs. Grubbs matchup in my last game too. Really wanted to see that. So for totally screwing up the BB x-mas week for me... I'm declaring D3 team "Pigeon Boys" jagbag of the week!)

Oh, my bad. At the start of the season it was at 69K, now it's at 54K and just recently 56K. It varies.

With an all american team and a usual NT starter (that I also drafted) I've only gotten 100k merch once ever.

Wow. You gotta be sh*ting me! I know what type of team I'm going to aim for in a few seasons. That's Awesome. When Liu was promoted to the U21 team my merchandise went up. It was nice.

Edit: what was your average merchandise that season, though? At first I thought you meant 100K weekly. That would be nice.

If Tanner starts/plays a lot then I usually average 80-85K, but if he doesn't then I'm lucky to get 65-70K. It's definitely worth it to have player(s) on the U21/NT though, I mean that's still pretty much a free weekly 20-30k (league average merch: 50k).

But Coco gets to play Tanner at SF however much he wants every week. I get to play my "PF" Tanner at backup SF or PF and then another game 48 at PG. -_-
Luckily he's the 7'0 LeBron of BB haha.

hmm, so your drafted star players don't really help all that much... thought it might have more impact.
It would really add up if you had an entire team of drafted players however! Or even non-drafted Americans (like Kentucky has).

Actually I drafted half my team (6/12 players).
