And then falls right back out of the hands and out of bounds. 5+ times a game ;)

If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.

Skimming through this thread kind of late.

To the argument that training JS orJR should improve FT shooting... then shouldn't training FT shooting improve your jump shot too? How many all time great FT shooters can't make an open mid-range shot?

We should be able to train FT for an entire season & have a team full of competent shooters, right? That's no more silly than training JS & expecting FT increases...

Or simply remove the FT skill and use JS to simulate FTs.

Your sarcasm is beyond silly, btw.

The logical solution would be for JS and JR training to also cross train FT's.
How does a player train to improve their jump shot and jump range shooting and not improve their FT shooting at the same time?
You're actually arguing that there's no similarities between shooting a jump shot and shooting a free throw?
I'm surprised that you can't see the huge similarity between shooting a basketball from one spot/distance and shooting a basketball from a different spot/distance.

I replying to the above. He said nothing about removing FTs. Separate discussion, #YOLOSWAG
Arguing FT should train JS is no more silly than arguing JS should train FT.

Bruce Bowen once led the NBA in 3 point percentage... while shooting 40% from the FT line.

Yes, his FT % was lower than his 3pt % that season. Take that for whatever it's worth.

Here's a pretty funny blog about the worst NBA FT shooters ever. Note that they still managed at least 40-50%. That should probably be the baseline low (or even something ridiculous like 25%, just not absolute zero because my 7yo could heave 1700 shots at the rim and get at least 1 in there)

So let's make 40% the floor for anybody with high JR then. It's settled! ;)

ha!
(that example was more for the, "let's remove the FT skill entirely & use shooting to simulate it" guy though).

I wouldn't really care if they raised the floor. But by the same token... a player with marvelous (15) FT shouldn't have atrocious (1) JS & JR either. Like one guy on my team does...

I on the other hand wish Free Throw skills to diminish occasionally just like Stamina. It's stupid that even NBA professionals shoot hundreds, if not nearly a thousand, over a week... and here we have a few weeks training free throws and they can be decent FT shooters forever. BB is not very realistic in this regard.

Even if they never practiced free throws they'd still get a few in.

The only thing I can say is that there is definitely a correlation with bad shooters being bad FT shooters in real life. I mean look at players like Dwight Howard, that guy can't shoot a jump shot or a free throw to save his life, another example, Jason Kidd, was an average jumpshooter over his career and posted an average FT rating, Steve Nash/Ray Allen great jumpshooters and great FT averages as well. Shaq terrible jumpshooter and even though we know he practiced his free throws all the time never really got better. Just some examples. But I do also see what you are saying as well. In fact I would say it would be more realistic for a larger player 7footer or so should be required to have a good jumpshot in order to have a good freethrow rating.
