i actually remember my start up quite vividly.

Was 3-8, was too nooby and was like "Alright, how am I gonna win the ship here?"

Bought players, half read forums half didn't. Tried too hard for title.

So when you have a bad record and you get a team, I suspect most managesr are like "How can i make my team a contender NOW" and end up more vulnerable to blowing up all their starting cash.

If it's fresh out the draft, or having took over a tream with a winning record, things might be different. But that is my experience around 9 seasons ago.

We are going to have to do it individually on our own.

Yeah, the app will help.

But the nature of the game conspires against its mass consumption. This game is not designed to satisfy the masses's bowels and guts, something that you consume and it evaporates before you turn off the video console.

This game satisfies brains: its interface is simple, it's structure is complex, and you spend (or could spend) a lot of time inside the structure of the game, instead of the actual "thing" -the BKB game of the day- happening. Brains don't need 6GB of RAM or extreme pixelation to feel pleasure; guts and bowels do.

Now, in our hypermodern times, I wouldn't expect young and middle-aged people to sign up for a game and right off the bat understand they'll need a calendar year to be elite, and actually stay. And by elite I not only mean a 15k arena with a roster that pretty much equals or surpasses your tickets earnings, with long national cup runs, but I also mean -like somenone here said somewhere- scout opponents, study players assets and skills, and actually read and understand Josef Ka's workbooks and coeffs.

So forget it, I actually think 25k users -real, long term users- is pretty much a miracle in these days.

The app will help, undoubtely, but perhaps its benefits will have to do with only having less bots (or, if you want, more "human" bots, that is dudes with just a little more activity that a true bot, but not enough activity to actually be what we would call "regular users"; they would just avoid becoming bots), but that doesn't mean the players will be more engaged with the game.

Anyway, in any case, the app should be an improvement, however you look at it.

I don't know... just some thoughts...

+1 succinct

Y -like somenone here said somewhere- scout opponents, study players assets and skills, and actually read and understand Josef Ka's workbooks and coeffs.

Yeah...that was me. You have said what I've been thinking of late, enzomanya...that more users won't necessarily improve the experience. That less users, but more willing and engaged (and as a result, ultimately more experienced managers) would make the game more challenging, hence more enjoyable.

You have exposed my negative thinking it seems I had when I originally started this thread: that the decline in users was indicative perhaps of a dying game. But you're right...less users isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The old, "less is more" adage...

Well guys, I tend to agree.

I am 'older' and really joined the game because I wanted to find something that would keep my mind active, that required the user to have many plates spinning at the same time. This was by far the best option I could find.

I agree with all the points in the last two posts (and some beyond) and would like to add an observation of my own as well, Utopia; I think this was a great idea, as it fits into this discussion, what a great way to bring engaged and willing managers from all over the world and get them all interacting together almost without boarders?! genius! Here we are coming to the realisation that there is a declining number of users, but quite likely just a settling of critical mass, and then comes along an idea like Utopia.

I think if BB just continued to find ways that the passionate and engaged could regularly interact, then we would all be in for a great future.

This game is a long term management one and the thinkers will stay, gamers looking for a console style game are never going to be happy with the long term investment model that BB has it's foundations set in.

I think a move to a smart phone friendly version is a must, but not a highly visual console style of game change.

That is my 5c worth, and as I really hate typing, I will end it right here

Facebook & Twitter
When you start playing BuzzerBeater you are asked to complete 19 tasks. Add another task: ''Like or Follow BB''. The new user should either like the official BB page on Facebook or follow BB on twitter. Why not forcing the old users to also like or follow? It takes only one click for us and it advertises BB to every friend of ours...

Might be hard for people when they don´t use Twitter or Facebook... like me.

There are many good ideas how to make it more attractive to join the game and to stay in the game. We have the mentoring thing as well in the German community, but that requires newbies to find the BB-Forums, and the correct ones. But once new managers fínd a mentor, I think that´s the best way to keep them enjoying the game in a critical phase (establishing your team after the first month and until the training results lead to a better team).

For oldies like me, the best way to keep us in the game is - in my opinion - to make fundamental changes in the game engine. The minute distribution, the substitution patterns, the game engine at certain points within a game, especially in crunch time, is such a mess. I don´t follow games any longer, even if I have time. It´s just no fun. You don´t have the chance to set realistic lineups, you have (nearly) no options how to react in crunchtime. You have some totally broken tactics like Patient (totally unrealistic) or the ISO tactics that hardly ever work (and they NEVER work better than established ones like Motion, LI or Run´n´Gun).
The game itself is fun, because I like the slow pace of a text based desktop game, but there is a lot of room for improvement for the actual game engine.

Another thing that I don´t like is the communication between the BBs and the community, cause there is hardly any. BB-Marin shows up every now and then, others never. The news page is a mess, e.g.the welcome message with the changes for the season shows up after the first two league matches are played.
