why didn't you keep him and Ton to get you through div 2, not like they wont be 2/5th's of your starting 5 when you come back to ABBL? Lot's of work to build a Lawrence from scratch.

Unless of course you are planning on doing a Iwen in which case you should have started Ton at a lower price ;)

Its 4 pm and only 9 hours left to acquire a player before the playoffs and relegation series.

Hard to believe that the only two managers who havnt been on line today are Datzilla and Yoda.

Datzila may be completely unaware of the injury to Duffman, and Yoda would have been all over this injury and its implications and written it up accordingly.

Shocked that only mllama is having a dash at winning the championship.

I can understand Dire not having a red hot go as his mob is already into the B3 games courtesy of the cup but what about Bryce and Whitebeard?

The likes of Shanmag must be licking her lips at the prospect of bouncing back to the ABBL in a seasons time with millions to spend, with the prospect that if this trend of the experienced managers not chasing championships, that she will have a clear path to glory.

By "not having a go" do you mean not going way over my 'salary cap' just for the playoff run? Are you not allowed to compete for the title without rentals anymore?

Look its admirable to not use rentals and I personally think that changes need to made so that the use of rentals is not so convenient and cost effective.

Perhaps I should have used the phrase "win at all costs" rather than "not having a go".

I tend to have an over developed competitive streak in myself and just dont understand why teams who have a chance of winning dont employ a win at all costs attitude.

Perhaps the financials of some of the higher ranked experienced teams does not allow it and if so you might all be easy prey for the likes of Shanmag, Yoda and Iwen in a couple of seasons time

There is no financial incentive to winning the ABBL. No prize money, nothing.

So that extra 300k a week you pay in salaries for the duration of the playoffs is gone, forever.

Perhaps as an improvement to the game this needs to change.

A mill in prize money might just prompt a few more teams into trying harder to win.

This would also be good for the middle of the ladder teams, who might progress further the following season if 2 or 3 teams higher up the ladder, sufferred some financial pain trying in vain to win the championship and prize money

Can I note that my purchase isn't exactly 'having a go' - I'd been looking at a replacement for Aggie all season (but due to lazyiness/getting outbidded, never got one), and figured I may as bloody well get one before the playoffs.

He's not a rental, I intend on keeping him next season (but Aggie will get pensioned off in the next week or two)

I'd imagine that there is a fairly health boost to crowd numbers over the following season, particularly early on, so there is a bit of a financial incentive there. Whether it would repay the cost of hiring in additional wages, who knows...

Yeah there is returns in terms of a better fan survey resulting in more income thru gate receipt... but at the expense pf paying an extra 600k over the 2 weeks of the PO... one can only ponder.

think of it this way...
you only need about 600-700k salary to remain competitive in the abbl, and make a bit of money on side.
Or you can be a hero and be like manchested united, be like chelsea or manchester city and buy a team to win the championship... go for glory.

to each his own.

atm I'd stick to saving my hard earned money for survival next seaon.... and I have thought very very hard about bringing in some 300k big men to compete. just does not seem worth it atm.

As a new promotee I guess I have been living in a bit of a financial false world.

Next season the fans wont be as happy and will want real success to justify them attending

Reality is that even with a drop in ticket prices, the gate might still be down 50 to 75 K on this season

Could very well have 7 teams in the Great 8, spending 6 to 700K for the majority of the season.

Might make it easier for the top teams in the Big 8 who might have a few easier games
