There is no financial incentive to winning the ABBL. No prize money, nothing.

So that extra 300k a week you pay in salaries for the duration of the playoffs is gone, forever.

Perhaps as an improvement to the game this needs to change.

A mill in prize money might just prompt a few more teams into trying harder to win.

This would also be good for the middle of the ladder teams, who might progress further the following season if 2 or 3 teams higher up the ladder, sufferred some financial pain trying in vain to win the championship and prize money

Can I note that my purchase isn't exactly 'having a go' - I'd been looking at a replacement for Aggie all season (but due to lazyiness/getting outbidded, never got one), and figured I may as bloody well get one before the playoffs.

He's not a rental, I intend on keeping him next season (but Aggie will get pensioned off in the next week or two)

I'd imagine that there is a fairly health boost to crowd numbers over the following season, particularly early on, so there is a bit of a financial incentive there. Whether it would repay the cost of hiring in additional wages, who knows...

Yeah there is returns in terms of a better fan survey resulting in more income thru gate receipt... but at the expense pf paying an extra 600k over the 2 weeks of the PO... one can only ponder.

think of it this way...
you only need about 600-700k salary to remain competitive in the abbl, and make a bit of money on side.
Or you can be a hero and be like manchested united, be like chelsea or manchester city and buy a team to win the championship... go for glory.

to each his own.

atm I'd stick to saving my hard earned money for survival next seaon.... and I have thought very very hard about bringing in some 300k big men to compete. just does not seem worth it atm.

As a new promotee I guess I have been living in a bit of a financial false world.

Next season the fans wont be as happy and will want real success to justify them attending

Reality is that even with a drop in ticket prices, the gate might still be down 50 to 75 K on this season

Could very well have 7 teams in the Great 8, spending 6 to 700K for the majority of the season.

Might make it easier for the top teams in the Big 8 who might have a few easier games

I'm on. What a 24 hours. Well my last game in the ABBL is over and my season of tanking has gotten me a much bigger arena, Sperbert the SF I always dreamed of (age 26) and Lawrance the PF beyond my dreams (age 25). It also allowed me to train all three of my young stars this season Barton, Kumar and Garrett and if I bounce back Barton will be a starter along with Sperbert and Lawrance so I already have three fifths of my starting ABBL team (if I ever return).

I will have to make a hard decision about trainees early next season with Barton, Kumar, Garrett, Sperbert, Lawrance and hopefully the number one draft pick all getting training in one on one for forwards for a few weeks but then I will have to make a hard, hard decision.

No point in keeping it a secret this draft is rubbish. I have interviewed every single three ball or over 18 year old and there are no five potential guys at all. The best is probably a five ball skill A- four ball potential big man. That could be a $3,500 perennial allstar with multiple atrocious outside skills, exactly what I don't want seeing I have to train Barton my PG for at least two more seasons. There are no guards at all of three to five ball skill with four ball potential, what a crock of rubbish.

Poor Datzilla. With Duffman injured he is clearly the underdog, as Koop said his entire team is designed to work around duffmen. Maybe a last minute rental will help, if he has the money and gets on in time.

At the start of the season who would have thought that the Big 8 would be losing three?

Sid if you think your fans will be unhappy, mine will be furious!

Oh dear. The transfer deadline has passed and DFBS still hasn't logged in to notice that Duffill has been injured.

What a lucky break for Hadders!

Seems very much of character for Datzilla not to log in.

Hope he is okay in real life and that if he is, that he stays okay when he finds out the bad news of the injury

And there we have it...

Who would have thought at the start of the season that both 6th and 7th in the Great 8 would be able to survive.

I wouldn't write DFBS off just yet, he just needs to sneak a win at home in game one, and he should have Duffill back for game 3. Anything can happen yet, but ti did make the relegation series alot more interesting
