so the reasoning by your idea is flawed... sorry to say. again not trying to argue, just trying to give you another view. Let me explain. Your main idea behind the automatic scrimmage (which is a great Idea, I like it, just don't think it is implementable the way you would like it) was to let your team play against another to compare your own strength to theirs. I play not every game my best team, I play to give my best players the most minutes. so the last game might not be my best team, it could even be players bought for $1000 just to have some sort off backup. So it would no longer be a test against the others team best team.

You can't let the coach select the best possible team either, because some players might not even know what it is and you would help/give them an unfair advantage by letting them find out.

it would be a strain on the servers because you would want this to run as an extra game, not instead the PL and make it available to everyone to use. there will/could be a lot more games than PL games and it would be at another time so it would be extra work.

Thanks for the ideas you've mentioned so far. I get the sense that the biggest issue is the complexity of the game (I'd call it a complaint, but it also seems that our experienced players enjoy the complexity).

Do you think it would be a good idea to create an assistant coach who could help players with some of these things? One of the concerns here, of course, is that if we make a coach like this, I think we'd have to make it permanently available.

So, for example, would you like to have a "set best lineup" button on the tactics page? I'm worried that if we give such a button, then either it would turn out to be really good, in which case setting tactics might cease to be interesting, or it would turn out not to be so good, in which case players would feel that we're misleading them.

For example, a common question from new players is "Which of these players is my best small forward?", but the correct answer to that question is "it depends upon my team's philosophy".

What do you think?

Please don't add a "best line up" - Button, that would destroy the fun of playing around in excel or setting up.. maybe just make it more clear which skills are good for which position and how the combination with tactics and those skills can work out.

I never have a problem getting a scrimmage, but I think it is imperative that the BB establish some mechanism so that whoever wants tp play one is able to do so. This might involve setting up the BBteam- a team of average guys, not unlike the Washington Generals, who can play 1000 games a day if necessary, or automatically arranging a scrimmage with another scrimmage-less team or what have you, but I think that someone not being able to scrimmage because no one accepts his requests is lame.

Hi Josef,

your not monopolizing the thread, feel free to speak your mind :) I think you are doing a great job with your "what if " machine and your quest for the formula's, and I think maybe those could come in handy for new players if integrated in BB. On the other hand I see a problem with the extra scrimmage: the first thing what came to my mind about how to use it, is to select my next opponents last game... Played with not my best line up, it would be easy to figure out what is needed to win it when it counts (I bet Torooo would use this weeks free scrimmage to check out Drunkers and vice versa). Not only that, but if you would make it a supporter feature, you would give supporters a big advantage over non-supporters in official BB games...

good point yeah..

it should be possible to like click a button making you "available" for a scrim, maybe with a little box, where you can add a note aswell.

then one can flip the list and see the country, which league the team plays in and maybe average salary or something :)

An idea that could help with all three could be to have once a season a scrimmage against one of the BB-versions of the NBA teams (as they have been used in the simulations).

Say during the finals week you get to play (in arcade mode) the BB version of the Cleveland Cavaliers or whatever. You choose home or away and their enthusiasm level (this should guarantee that people at very different levels of the BB ladder can play).

That would be really cool! Neat idea. :)

Sadly, I assume that there would need to be extensive licensing fees.

i frankly dont get the distinction between fantasy basketball and a sports simulation... i mean in some sense isn't fantasy basketball a really really lame game engine? where you aren't playing a game like basketball but it is a game, with real life players, that you control.... Maybe fantasy sports need licensing fees too... but I dont see how we would be any worse off on legal ground than a fantasy basketball site.

EDIT: i am not a lawyer... obviously we would probably be sued and thats probably all it comes down to... so i'm not saying buzzerbeater thinks we can do this.

i think as much as it would be pleasing in the eyes of people, did anyone remember the skill level they put on chris paul when we were starting the simulation for scores of nba games?

i think by the way i see it the best guards in bb are already way over those skill of chris paul . . . so how can you get it to make buzz even for a long time, because people might lose interest in due time and even fast :D
