I wasn't meant to be as Team Pilipinas couldn't beat top favorite China for the U21 Asian Championship Crown for Season 22. Team Pilipinas ended up with the silver trophy and an automatic ticket to the World championships in Season 23.

"Congrats to Team China. Deserving to be Champions. No excuses for losing to a superior team." said Lolo Smithz. "We will try to do better next season in the Worlds and try to get a semifinal slot."

"I would thank everyone who supported Team Pilipinas this season. Those who took time to enjoy our games win or lose. It was fun times. Hopefully more will join us in the future to make our U21 team stronger not only in team unity but also in terms of players trained."

"Thank you to all the trainers of our U21 players. I know its hard at times for you to sacrifice your players playing time for the benefit of our national team. We appreciate it much when you do so. To the Elders you know who you are thank you for putting up with me when we disagree with our tactics and ideas. In the end we also learned much about this game."

"To everyone a championship would have been the icing in the cake but it really wasn't meant to be. My sincere apologies to all."

Press Conference and Introduction of Season 23 U21 squad "Da Misfits"

With camera lights flashing Pilipinas U21 manager Lolo Smithz stood in the middle of the court of SM MOA Arena to introduce this seasons U21 players.

"I would first like to thank all trainers in the Philippines for training young superstars in the hope that they can make it to the U21 squad. Many were scouted but few are chosen. Sad reality is there are only a limited number of spots in the U21 team. This seasons crop is interesting and challenging. Some of the most unusual set of skills in many seasons of the U21 teams of past. 16 potential U21 players have been chosen. Some are guaranteed a spot some aren't. There is still 3 weeks to go till the start of the World Cup so there still will be potential call ups and changes in the lineup."

"So I would like to present this seasons Pilipinas U21 sqaud, this group of ragtag players who I've nicknamed "The Misfits"".

Team Captain: Marc "Jamby" Madrigal from Gwapsak. No he isn't gay but a fan of Ex Sen Madrigal. The only 20 yo player to make the U21 squad last season and currently the highest salaried 21 yo pinoy player, he has earned the right to lead this ragtag group of players in the World Cup. Showed much potential last season leading the Pilipinas U21 team in scoring and rebounding in some games played.

Vice Team Captain: Piao "Masungit" Dakun from Manila Kingpin. Like his trainer always has this very grim and serious faced look. Plays point guard highly competitive and does not back down from tough opponents. Scored 40 points once in his young career.

Head Waterboy Valentino Cupido "Chicks Killer" Denaque from Owone Tandem. Favorite past time is clubbing and looking for a one night stand but in the hard court opponents are wary of this triple double monster down low. One of the most prized players of his batch with a transfer price of 1.3 mil as a rookie already has 3 triples doubles in his career with averages of 10.4 points 6.4 assists and 6.8 rebounds.

Assistant Head Waterboy Ernest "Mohawk" Pacquing from Pro Tambays. Has the lowest salary in the U21 squad but his salary is deceiving. He can score with the best of them and scored 45 points once in a PPL league game.

Team Mascot Justin "The Bull" Margarico from QC Bulls. Like the name of his team, Margarico likes to bulldoze his way to the hoop. Opponents better get out of his way or risk permanent disability! Scored 45 points once in his young career.

Benigno "Chopsticks" Besa from Janson. Plies his trade in league 3.8 in China. Dependable banger down low who once grabbed 25 rebounds in a game.

Pedrito "The Bouncer" Tenoso from Xerex. Another quality player from known bigman trainer Xerex, This 7'0" behemoth favorite past time is embarrassing opposing players by swatting the ball for those who dare to try to shot in the shaded lane. Don't ay we didn't warn you.

Vicente "Tsinoy No. 1" Yap from Manila Death Note. One of the three Tsinoys in this years U21 squad, this point guard vows to wow the crowds with his playmaking abilities and once made 14 assists in a game.

Raymundo "Tsinoy No. 2" Tan from Tanggurak. Another Tsinoy who plays the PF spot. Highest scoring game is 30 points and pulled down 22 rebounds once.

Raffy "Tsinoy No. 3" Yee from Theory of Increased Risk. 3rd Tsinoy on the u21 team this season. Doesn't get much playing time in the league averages only 18 minutes per game but vows to show his manager how good he is in the world stage.

Luke "Skywalker" Daypuyat from Slam Dunkers. Plies his trade in league 3.15 in Poland. Vows to shoot the lights out in the World Cup.

Gerry "Upaw" Pacanan from Jordanz. Was destined to be a U21 player the moment he was drafted 3 seasons ago by his manager. Will get plenty of playing time for sure in the World Cup.

To be continued......

Winslow Villaflor from The World is Mine. Recently transferred to Hungary league 3.14 with a transfer price of 750k. Will be competing for the starting SF spot of the U21 squad.

Ameer Celajes from Hbeda. Originally from United Destroyers but was bought in a free agent auction for 800k. Trained since his rookie season to be a U21 player will show why he deserves to be in this seasons U21 squad.

Raul Emologa from The Dynasand Midges. One of the better traditionally trained bigmen of this seasons U21 squad. Hungry to compete for a starting spot in the lineup.

Ulan "Raindrops" Cantara from Pro Tambays. Another player from ex U21 coach Master Cezzz who is the only 20 yo to make it in this seasons U21 squad. Team Captain in waiting for next seasons U21 sqaud. He got skillzzzz man.

"As said the World Cup does not start for another three weeks. If anyone has a player who they think is more worthy to be in the U21 squad I am only a PM away. Do so you never know what might happen. Good luck to Team Pilipinas this season!"

After the conference was over Team Captain March Madrigal held one of his own. "We of Team Pilipinas would like to say that we will show Lolo Smithz our esteemed manager we aren't misfits. We are hungry to win. The ball is round and these "Misfits" can surprise a team or two. Just wait and see...."

Buzzerbeater!

The Team Pilipinas bench erupted in joy as Piao Dakun sank a three pointer at the buzzer for a thrilling 119 to 118 win against a tough Bosnia squad who is ranked 24th in the world. Dakun grabbed a defensive rebounded from a missed free throw with only 3 seconds left and sprinted to the other side and threw a hail mary at the corner for a buzzer beating shot.

Lolo Smithz was all smiles after and was even seen high fiving his players after the terrific and exciting win surprising reporters who saw Lolo Smithz pretty serious last season.

"This season we will be playing more loose and have fun. Last season was really stressful because we had to qualify for the Worlds. It is nice to try new tactics in U21. For years we have relied on LI tactics. It is good for a change now that we have players to play the outside game also. Our Run and Gun experiment was a mild success. Needs a little tweaking to make it work better and hope our players get the right training to make it even better than it is now."

"As predicted Raffy Yee proved he has the ability to play at the highest level when given the chance. 27 points on 11 of 18 shooting including 4 out of 5 3 point shots which isn't easy to do at the PF position while hauling down 13 robounds (7 offensive) also."

"The assists department saw us with 29 assists which was the weak part of our team last season. Piao Dakun with 10 assists and 12 points and he even isn't our best playmaker at the point speaks loudly how assists will be a crucial part of our offense this season."

"The Sf position on the other hand needs a little tweaking. Ulan Cantara was too eager to shoot making just 6 out of 23 shots but he had an almost triple double like performance though with 14 points 5 rebounds and 7 assists plus one steal."

"All in all it was a rousing start for us. Our team this season as said is challenging with some very unique skill sets. We have two more weeks to try different tactics in scrimmages and see which of them really clicks with our team chemistry."

Reporters then ask Piao Dakun about his buzzer beating shot and this is what he had to say. "Lolo Smithz just needs to get the ball to me in the endgame and I will do the rest. And the team captain spot will be mine when the Worlds start. Count on it."

Second Team:
Genso Suikoden
In a different interview for U21 Captain Marc Madrigal said that... " I may not be a good help in defense but I can guarantee that I will give my whole life fighting for rebounds for more ball possession for my team." When asked for his reaction about his vice captain statement about stealing his captain position he said in a serious but mild manners "You don't have to be a scoring machine, a defensive stopper nor a buzzbeater king to be a captain..everyone can be a captain in a certain circumtances..for as long as I can play whole heartedly I will be a captain that everyone want. Its all in the heart baby." he also said that he don't want his 1 year expossure as U21 player be wasted "nakakahiya sa mga senior ko kung hindi ako magsusumikap." and he smile...he even said to his U21 manager "lolo paburger ka naman..BURGER!!BURGER!!..
