My bold prediction: Utopia will eventually have more than 1000 users. Maybe I'm just optimistic though.

I think it would be somewhat more fun if buying players the first say three seasons in Utopia would not be allowed. At least not players from outside of Utopia.
How that would be done with starting rosters is somewhat harder to say, but i think it would be more fun and it would not influence the "real" BB-economy either as much as it will do at the start of next season when all Utopia teams are looking for players.

Giving it some thought, I think the first season, atleast, of Utopia would be madness on the low-end market.

For this time I think they should consider FAing all fires in the lower salary range that currently are not being FAd, just for that season.

normally I am against FAs and still think FAs beyond, say, 20k salary mark should not exist. Further I think FAs with salary over 100k should be listed for 10x salary, not 1million. If they have 300k salary, then 3million should be the buy price IMO. BUT for one season, the first of Utopia, they should FA all players under 20k salary.

When 100~1000 (or how many ever) veteran, motivated players sign up for new teams with minimum budgets...it will become a feeding frenzy for quality low salary players. This is fine for the actual Utopia teams, but what about any new users/lower division teams in regular countries? To avoid an unruly price inflation at that level I think something should be done.

Idea=
For the name of the new 'country' = BB International (or something along those lines)

No need for creating some fictional country, already some people are complaining. Who cares what it is called for the most part, but you can satisfy those who say it is unrealistic by simply not calling it a 'country'.

It is a country on the programming end obvoiusly since you make it just like any other country but the idea could be that it is simply an organization/worldwide sports league. For the flag: you could make one up or just use the BB flag that already exists.

For the players, if you want to give them the same flag as league/teams...then they would be BB international players. The idea could be they represent a dude from a country (with nationlity) of a real world nation currently non-existant in BB. So they are just represented as an international player.

Or you could have drafts be a random selection of players from all over the world...the way most real sports leagues work anyway. Real world NBA etc. drafts people from all over the world. Nobody in the real world is guaranteed to start pro-ball in their actual nation of birth. Top-end European ballers often play Highschool and college ball outside of their home state, or in the US...so its realistic to draft outside of your home nation. Programming wise this might be hard though. that's up to you obvoiusly.

considering Thomas More's Utopia had no money and people would cooperate, which suits my proclivities and ideals, i kinda agree that this "Utopia" is not my idea of utopia. instead what is shaping up is an elite world of cut-throat competition with little mercy for the weak.

How 'bout calling it "Ayn Randia"?

If people want a real country that has no chance of ever becoming a BB nation, then just look at this list for the least populated nations on Earth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_least_populous_count...

I think it's safe to make our new nation Vatican City or Pitcairn Islands.

Plus, think of all the fun names we could create for teams in Vatican City.

Come on, guys, this utpia idea is really bad.. Why do we need a fictional country?

What if they call it Mark Cuban's Invite Only Private Island for Elite Basketball Managers and Players?

I thought it would be fun if they called it Mars and made all the players green.
