(עד פעם, אם מישהו יכול לתרגם לי, יהיה מאד נחמד)
Okay... I've read through all of the posts here (and considered closing the discussion once or twice during the last few days when things were getting a bit out of hand...). I took from it that most people (at least, the chilonim) were strongly against moving the day, were less against moving the hour to later on Saturday night, and were most in favour of keeping things as is. The datiyim favour a change.
Our goal is to make BuzzerBeater fun and accessible to everyone. Even if someone can set their lineup on Friday afternoon before Shabbat starts, it would still be nice if they could watch the game live to see how they did.
I'm not sure if anyone feels like it's against the spirit of Shabbat to set a lineup for a Shabbat match, though my limited experience with Talmud (and, admittedly, with a heavy focus on the Masechtot in Nezikin) says that it should be as allowed as setting a timer for lights to go on or off on Shabbat (please correct me if I'm wrong!).
So, I would still like to help out the religious community if at all possible, but I certainly don't want to inconvenience the chilonim, if we can avoid it. From what I gathered, the only two possible options would be:
a) To keep the matches as they currently are;
b) To move the Saturday night matches to around 22:00, so people can watch them (or set their lineups) after Shabbat.
If we kept the matches as they are, the religious teams who are opposed to having matches on Shabbat are welcome to have their team transferred to a different country (of a comparable size). Most likely, this will mean the USA (if you don't mind having games at 3:00 am) or to Spain (3 hours later than Israel) or Portugal (3.5 hours later than Israel). England is a little small, but has the added benefit of having a language that many Israelis speak.
So, please let me know. I think the best thing might be to just have a vote, and we'll try to take the general feeling into account.
Please respond to this thread with a post with the following information:
- On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being opposed to it and 10 being in favour of it, how much would you mind having the match time moved to later in the evening, after Shabbat?
- Please also include whether you are religious or not.
- Feel free to add any explanation about your vote, if you'd like.
Thanks very much!
