JK: Parrot, where have you been??Parrot: Sometimes I have to work you know. I've been worrying how to defend my results against sceptics, so I've done a re-run of model training, where I start from the assumption that secondary skills don't matter at all - in the original models I start from the assumption that all skills have equal importance at all positions. I'm relieved, because as it turns out with my current training-set of 400 games both starting assumptions lead to very similar results.JK: Team ratings are still not all about secondaries, right?Parrot: Of course not, and one should not overestimate the real importance of these differences in secondary skill weights in real games, especially since we don't know how well they correspond to the current game engine after last season's revisions. More directly relevant may be the tactic-dependent weight changes of primary skills.JK: Can we discuss them on the example of inside offenses?Parrot: Sure, alter ego-mate. Look Inside is quite nice for example. In the total sum of the six ratings, it does the following compared to Base Offense: greatly reduced weight of Jump Shot and Jump Range, particularly the former. Big increase in the weight of Passing on all positions. Smaller increases in the weight of Handling, Inside Shot, and Rebounding. Very small increase for Driving of guards, decrease of Driving for C, PF and SF.JK: Is there something special going on with the SF in Look Inside?Parrot: The total increase of the weight of the Inside Shot skill is not really huge, but most of it is allocated to the PF and SF positions, whereas the other three positions do actually not see an increased weight of the Inside Shot skill in this tactic.JK: So what's the difference to Low Post then?Parrot: If we compare Look Inside to Low Post, the differences are not huge. The biggest difference is that Jump Range is more important in Look Inside. Low Post uses more Handling, and the SF and SG use more Passing. This is probably related to the fact that in Low Post, there is more weight on the Inside Shot skill of the C, and less weight on the Inside Shot skill of the SF, and a little less on SG and PG as well. So in Low Post, the inside attack is focussed on the Inside Shot skills of C and PF, whereas in Look Inside the SF and to a smaller extent also SG and PG matter more.JK: I guess many people would have expected these differences. What about stamina in inside offenses?Parrot: It seems that Look Inside has less energy depletion for Inside Shooting, both tactics have a default impact on the energy for Outside Defense, but Look Inside is slightly more effected by stamina effects in the (offensive) Rebounding rating.
