After a special welcome lunch consisting of balut, soup number 5 and a lot of tuba both Team USA and Team Pilipinas were raring to show their stuff on the hard court. Within 3 minutes from the start of the 1st quarter Valentino "Da Loverboy" Denaque was injured when he was fouled by USA SF Andaya. Backup SF Raffy Yee then did a number on Elvis McMullen injuring him with a fragrant foul which almost cleared the benches if it were not for cooler heads that prevailed to keep the peace.

Team Usa lead 35 to 31 at the end of the 1st quarter and 65 to 60 at the end of the 2nd. Third half saw Team Pilipinas with a furious comeback to lead 87 to 84 with a few seconds left but Josu Brea made a desperation 3 to end the 3rd with a buzzerbeater at 87 all. Fourth quarter saw Team USA lead by 11 most of the way with Team Pilipinas hoping for another come from behind win but their efforts wasn't enough as they succumbed to a 123 to 117 loss to the highly fancied Team USA squad.

After handshakes from both squads Lolo Smithz was seen smiling even with the loss. "To lose by 6 points only against many times U21 World Champions USA is something to smile about. It was too bad Denaque got injured early and never was able to show his stuff. Other players stepped up thought with Raffy Yee scoring well again with 19 points and Justino "The Raging Bull" Margarico also showed he can score with the best of them with 19 points from 8 out of 12 shooting."

"Piao Dakun again is trying to show he deserves the captain's spot in this seasons U21 squad with a 20 point 6 assists and 2 steal performance with Gerry Pacanan playing pretty well also as the starting PG with 15 points 6 assists and 4 steals."

"Our Achilles heel seems to be our FT shooting 23 out of 35 made only. We need to improve on it fast or less other team will employ hacking fouls against us. We have one SC more to go and if Team USA would like a rematch I'd be game to do so. But next time will remind our organizers not to serve balut and soup number 5 anymore as tempers might flare uyp again."

"One last thing we appeal to the team managers of our U21 players to please watch their players game shape. Everyone has two weeks to improve their game shapes. If their game shapes are still that bad by then we will have no choice but to give their U21 spots to others. Good day and God bless Team Pilipinas."

Denaque Karma or Just plain Unlucky?

It was a Carnival like atmosphere in Brazil when Brasil U21 team hosted the Pilipinas U21 squad for the final scrimmage before the Season 23 World Championships starts. But again Valentino Cupido "The Loverboy" Denaque played only 9 minutes as he again went down with an injury at the 1st quarter playing only 9 minutes. Rumor had it he was offered a night that he will never forgot the rest of his life to fake his injury.

Even without Denaque's presence Justino "Da Bull" Margarico and Piao Dakun teamed up again to take charge but their efforts wasn't enough as Pilipinas succumbed to a 113 to 104 loss to a highly spirited Brasil team. Margarico had 29 points to lead all scorers and hauled down 9 rebounds and added one assist to his stat line. Piao Dakun had another great game with 16 points, 12 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals playing point for the Pilipinas team. Team Captain Marc "Jamby" Madrigal added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Team manager of the Pilipinas squad Lolo Smithz couldn't hide his disappointment on Denaque's second straight 1st quarter injury. "I don't know if Denaque is a victim of deliberate hard fouls to prevent him from playing or just having a karmic episode for his womanizing ways or he is just plain unlucky to be injuring himself always. whatever the reason maybe he would have been a very big help to our team if he could just stay on the floor. We have drawn up several plays just to utilize his incredible talents but all is for naught."

"His backup for this game Regan Arcega was given a chance to play and prove himself due to the fact he is playing superb basketball in a 5-0 team in league 2.2 playing 48 minutes per games at times. Sadly he seems not to be up to par for U21 duties as the opposing Sf ran circles around him."

"Overall it was an okay game since it really wasn't our best team in the floor also and our players seemed to be distracted by the skimpy ladies in the arena (Even I was). Needs some serious tweaking though to anticipate future "injuries" that might occur again. Next week will be the start of the World Championships and hopefully our game shape will be pretty good by that time in order to have a decent chance of reaching the second round."

When asked who would be this season's team captain Lolo Smithz had this to say. "To be fair Dakun is really the ideal team captain for this squad but I also have to weigh Madrigal's seniority in the U21 squad so the Solomonic solution would be both of them will be CO Captains of this years team."

As the press conference drew to a close everyone seemed to have noticed the Loverboy being escorted out the arena by a bevy of beautiful women. Wonder where they will be going to? :P
