Denaque Karma or Just plain Unlucky?

It was a Carnival like atmosphere in Brazil when Brasil U21 team hosted the Pilipinas U21 squad for the final scrimmage before the Season 23 World Championships starts. But again Valentino Cupido "The Loverboy" Denaque played only 9 minutes as he again went down with an injury at the 1st quarter playing only 9 minutes. Rumor had it he was offered a night that he will never forgot the rest of his life to fake his injury.

Even without Denaque's presence Justino "Da Bull" Margarico and Piao Dakun teamed up again to take charge but their efforts wasn't enough as Pilipinas succumbed to a 113 to 104 loss to a highly spirited Brasil team. Margarico had 29 points to lead all scorers and hauled down 9 rebounds and added one assist to his stat line. Piao Dakun had another great game with 16 points, 12 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals playing point for the Pilipinas team. Team Captain Marc "Jamby" Madrigal added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Team manager of the Pilipinas squad Lolo Smithz couldn't hide his disappointment on Denaque's second straight 1st quarter injury. "I don't know if Denaque is a victim of deliberate hard fouls to prevent him from playing or just having a karmic episode for his womanizing ways or he is just plain unlucky to be injuring himself always. whatever the reason maybe he would have been a very big help to our team if he could just stay on the floor. We have drawn up several plays just to utilize his incredible talents but all is for naught."

"His backup for this game Regan Arcega was given a chance to play and prove himself due to the fact he is playing superb basketball in a 5-0 team in league 2.2 playing 48 minutes per games at times. Sadly he seems not to be up to par for U21 duties as the opposing Sf ran circles around him."

"Overall it was an okay game since it really wasn't our best team in the floor also and our players seemed to be distracted by the skimpy ladies in the arena (Even I was). Needs some serious tweaking though to anticipate future "injuries" that might occur again. Next week will be the start of the World Championships and hopefully our game shape will be pretty good by that time in order to have a decent chance of reaching the second round."

When asked who would be this season's team captain Lolo Smithz had this to say. "To be fair Dakun is really the ideal team captain for this squad but I also have to weigh Madrigal's seniority in the U21 squad so the Solomonic solution would be both of them will be CO Captains of this years team."

As the press conference drew to a close everyone seemed to have noticed the Loverboy being escorted out the arena by a bevy of beautiful women. Wonder where they will be going to? :P

Season 23 U21 World Cup begins!

After a month or so of waiting our shiny Silver Trophy from the Season 22 Asian Championships finally arrives. Now to the next challenge The World Cup starting with....

Italy ranked 5th then Indonesia ranked 20th then Brasil ranked 9th then Al Jazair ranked 16th and last Latvija ranked 11th. Top 4 goes to the second round. Matches are at 1:30 AM Tuesdays (I know I don't expect anyone to be present :P)

Win or lose its still a great honor to be one of the teams that qualified to play for the World Cup. :) Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Russia Season 23 U21 World Championships

Team Pilipinas made a gallant stand in the first three quarters trailing only by 6 points but lost steam in the 4th to succumb to a 105 to 91 loss over highly favored Team Italy. Employing Run and Gun the Pilipinas squad couldn't find its range from the outside in the first three quarters and Team Italy took advantage of weak game shape of the Pilipinas players to pound the paint for most of its points.

Co Captain of the Pilipinas Team Marc "Jamby" Madrigal was a mere mortal against the onslaught of the Italian front court managing only 6 points and 7 rebounds. Starting PF Raymund Tan was gun shy scoring only 12 points with most of the Pilipinas points being scored by the guards and SF. Luke Daypuyat had a lousy shooting nite with 9 of 29 shooting scoring 22 points. Wilsow Villaflor and Piao Dakun chipped in 19 and 15 points respectively.

Lolo Smithz manager of the Pilipinas U21 squad was calm after the game and was joking around with the reporters. "Our players had frostbite it seems couldn't shoot the ball well. It's cold in Russia brrrrrr. Joking aside a 14 point loss against top seeded Italy is really good enough. We were hoping for an upset but just couldn't pull it off. Game shape is still an issue for our team and so is our FT shooting. Hopefully our second game against Indonesia will be better. We need to win 3 out of the next 4 games to have a chance to get to the second round."

Piao Dakun was in his usual "masungit" mood and he wasn't in the mood to be nice. "My Co Captain needs to step up. I'll do the scoring and all he needs is to defend and rebound the ball. I don't think that going to be too much to ask of him? Maybe his Co Captain status is giving him too much pressure. If he can't take it might as well give up the position for the sake of everyone. Enuf said."

Perfect si Pacquing! Dapat siya na bagong co-captain hehehe..
