Bruce Bowen once led the NBA in 3 point percentage... while shooting 40% from the FT line.

Yes, his FT % was lower than his 3pt % that season. Take that for whatever it's worth.

So let's make 40% the floor for anybody with high JR then. It's settled! ;)

ha!
(that example was more for the, "let's remove the FT skill entirely & use shooting to simulate it" guy though).

I wouldn't really care if they raised the floor. But by the same token... a player with marvelous (15) FT shouldn't have atrocious (1) JS & JR either. Like one guy on my team does...

I on the other hand wish Free Throw skills to diminish occasionally just like Stamina. It's stupid that even NBA professionals shoot hundreds, if not nearly a thousand, over a week... and here we have a few weeks training free throws and they can be decent FT shooters forever. BB is not very realistic in this regard.

Even if they never practiced free throws they'd still get a few in.

The only thing I can say is that there is definitely a correlation with bad shooters being bad FT shooters in real life. I mean look at players like Dwight Howard, that guy can't shoot a jump shot or a free throw to save his life, another example, Jason Kidd, was an average jumpshooter over his career and posted an average FT rating, Steve Nash/Ray Allen great jumpshooters and great FT averages as well. Shaq terrible jumpshooter and even though we know he practiced his free throws all the time never really got better. Just some examples. But I do also see what you are saying as well. In fact I would say it would be more realistic for a larger player 7footer or so should be required to have a good jumpshot in order to have a good freethrow rating.

I train FT from time to time and I want a freaking advantage in comparison to people who refuse to do so! Most of the managers refuse to train Stamina and Freethrows and do not realize how much salary they waste. It is too funny when you play with a 15k center with high Stamina/Freethrow against a +30-40k center and at the end of the game he is more effective.
I mean you guys are complaining about players who did not make a single freethrow but at the same time you could solve the problem only by training FT for the 1-2 weeks...don´t be ridiculous!

Actually I think people are complaining about the absurdity of someone not being able to single free-throw before training yet they still make jump-shots and 3-pointers.

Each player has 13 skills you can influence by training and I see no reason why managers, who refuse to train FT, should benefit from doing JR/JS training.

To me it is absurd to buy a player with atrocious FT in the first place. But not training him in this particular skill and than complaining about it makes even less sense. The difference from 0% to 15-20% is a single week of FT training...nothing more nothing less. If somebody does not want to do it...well than he has to live with 0%.

I train Small Forwards since 6 seasons now and it is a pain in the ass but even I had enough time to train FT here and there.

But the way that training program is already set up kills your argument.

If I choose to never, ever train JS directly I can still train it indirectly by training JR, IS or 1 on 1. If I refuse to train blocked shots, it will still be trained indirectly through ID.

All the training skills already set up to cross train the other skills indirectly except for FT's (I would say stamina too, but that's not actually a skill).

The difference is that JS/JR/1on1 is done by 1-2 positon training. If you include FT, Gameshape or Stamina in 1-2 position training there is no need for teamtraining anymore. As a result the game loses strategic depth and makes it boring imho.
