Why not just simply not pay any money to the relegation matches. They are fighting for their life shouldn't staying in the division be enough?
There is probably a really obvious reason why this is a bad idea.

Yeah, there is. But my suggestion would be that 5th place teams will get scrimmages with income.

this is probably a stupid idea but why not have a second set off playoffs for the teams in 5th - 8th.
it would go like this:
8th vs 8th......7th vs 7th.....6th vs 6th.....5th vs 5th.....
the loser of the 8th placed team gets relegated
the loser of the 7th placed team gets relegated
8th vs 7th.....6th vs 5th
the loser of either of theses matches gets relegated
???? vs ????
this gives you a huge advantage finishing 5th as you have less chance of being relegated.
tell me what you think.
the winner doesnt get a trophy or anything it just means every1 gets to play just like the top 4, this doesnt change the draft picks in anyway whats so ever.
Mayby the winner can get a trophy instead of it being gold it can be bronze or something.
just let me know what you guys think.
cheers

If i remember well, there is already a scrimmage generated by the system between the two 5th teams and between the two 8th teams.there could be implemented only the incomes for these games

Maybe the 6-7 matchups should be a one & done affair... neutral court. One nice payout. One game.

I'd give home court to the 6th place team - more reward for finishing higher.

A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

Nowadays if you finish 5th its a really lose of money. If you are sure that you can win the 7th of the other conference i would say its better to finish 6th so you have a better income and a better choice of draft. Anyway if the risk isnt high it really pays off.
