I think a simple rule all new players should observe is salary at least $3,500, potential all star and age 21. Never ever train anyone with worse than those characteristics.

Obviously experienced players will break these rules all the time (especially the age with well developed players a new player will not have), but for a new player they should try to stick to those parameters to avoid a ton of wasted training time.

I dont necessarely agree entirely. Especially for new coaches it may very well be worthwhile to train star or even starter potential players as they most likely wont train them to the cap anyway

I agree with most part of this but not the all star potential bit. New managers don't need to have players with high potential. They simply don't know enough about the game to train a player with high potential (and most likely they won't be capped because new managers are usually in the low divisions, thus limited net income).
But really true, new managers waste too much money on some silly things, and I was one of them :P and I'm pretty sure many of the experts made silly mistakes at the beginning.

I know someone who started off training only 4 players, two were 6th men one a starter and one a p-all-star. Guess how 3 of those 4 are going now 3 seasons later?

I did completly stupid things when I was starting, had no idea what I was doing, but we want the new players to enjoy the game and achieve some success. Training and "bonding" with a player is one of the ways to make this game very addictive, like a role playing game in a way as people love to see their characters level up.

I see what you guys are saying, my trainee didn't pop this week, but i got some better trainees with no less than star potential. They're ages are 18 and 19.

You're exactly right, so far i got three and planning on getting a couple more and that'll be it until i start making money from my arena.
