I thought the Lakers were offering Bynum straight up?

I haven't read that... and I can't imagine that the Lakers would do that (offer Bynum in a straight swap). Nor do I imagine that Denver would be keen on that either. They'd be wanting to clear off Harrington's or Andersen's contracts off their books too.

I would suggest that firstly, this is all just a ruse to get NYK to offer more (like, Gallinari/Fields in addition to Chandler) to their offer... and secondly that Denver approached LA. Lastly, that it didn't go very far at all. The only reason it would be at all public would be because Denver wants it to be public. LA are very good at playing their cards close to their chest.

It's all just rumor. The clip I watched on espn, which was just some 'insider' analyst specualting, implied that the lakers were shopping Odom or bynum for Melo, that it would work for cap considerations. The source said Denver didnt want odom, was trying to clear cap, but bynum would be a piece they may consider. Who knows, I looked for the clip briefly and didnt find it right away. Considering it was just specualtion I didnt feel it was worth a serious search.

This vid is 12 hours later from the one I saw. But it implicates Bynum was considered.

And I have to laugh that I spelled Speculation wrong twice in one paragraph!

Heh...
Everything I'm hearing/reading from LA's angle was that there was no way in blue hell that they'd consider it.
- Phil Jackson on it: "My first thought was, 'Why are these people interrupting my life with these kind of rumors?' "
- Kobe: "You guys take the liberty of assuming that we actually read what you guys write. So it's not a distraction if you don't read it. ... They're rumors. I don't really deal with the unknowns. We might as well as talk about UFOs too."
- More Phil: "I told Derrick Caracter that if Denver gave us Anthony straight up, then we would trade Derrick Caracter for Anthony," Jackson said, smiling as he talked about the Lakers' seldom-used second-round draft pick. "That's the only trade I want on this basketball club, if that's one that works out."

We all know it is just rumors. However, if there was any truth to any of it, I would expect Phil and Kobe to pretty much say the same thing they are now.

All of the major trades/signings with LA over the past 2 decades, no-one's heard about them until they're done.
LA are pretty good at keeping stuff quiet.

I guess my point is, if there was any truth to it, it'd probably already be done.

True! I always asked myself: "How come one of the biggest franchise in the NBA manage to be so inconspicuous?"... It may be one of the things that explains their success. "Great honors are great burdens".

Since when does the media base anything on truth? If analysts arent overanalyzing, they may just be out of a job. My guess is, Melo stays in Denver for the year. No one wants to give up what the Nuggets want for what amounts to a 3 month rental.

Love the way the Lakers have played the last two games. Just thought I'd share.

Some interesting games coming up, Orlando hosting the Lakers for one... but none bigger than Miami traveling to Boston.

I think Boston win, but by single digits.
