Does he have very different values for inside versus outside defense?

He plays point guard, so yes his outside defense is way better than his inside defense.

Well, obviously his OD is gonna be better than his ID. What I'm getting at is if his ID is really poor, even for a guard (1-3 maybe), then some of his foul problems in M2M may result from his opponent driving on him, or during inside shots. In principle I can see 3-2 zone helping reduce foul trouble for a guy like that.

Whether it actually helps is another question.

His inside defense is 6 and outside 11. I have trained him since he was 18 and I don't see much difference in fouling since his defense went up. Only when I play 3-2 I see that he fouls lesser than when I play man to man.

hmm, interesting. I would have thought 6 ID on a guard would be pretty good. Perhaps the zone defense is doing something different that reduces propensity to foul.

Are very foul prone players even worth training to higher levels? If you notice your rookie is getting 4 or 5 fouls a game in 48 minutes or so, is it best to just cut your losses and find a new trainee?

Yeah maybe that is best, but mostly it only cost me two weeks per season, that I cannot train another trainee fully, so that is not much. And I believe that foul prone players also have an upset, because they are more aggressive, that also helps the team.
