They are random, but not entirely random. Every player has a hidden "physicallity"attribute. Players that are low in this cause more fouls offensivly and defensivly. This includes your opponents players. So if you have an aggressive player he will foul more. If he is against an aggressive player he will also foul more. Ever seen players that constantly foul out in 20 minutes? This is partially why (bad defence also causes it).
These aggressive players foul more and are fouled more. Lucky fans are the worst. Have a look live at a walkover game some day and see how many fouls there are on both sides.
All injuries happen on fouls, therefore foul prone cause more injuries and get injured more. I think almost everyone accepts this. What I additionally believe is that the game, having determined that there will be an injury, makes the severity also be affected by the players aggression making it more likely to be a severe injury not just an in game injury.
Here is an example with
totally made up numbers:
Reverse aggression stat so atrocious = 10, pitiful = 9 etc...
: Let chance of foul event on play =
: Sum 2% + aggression
: If foul then chance injury =
: Sum 2% + aggression
: If injury then injury severity =
: INJ SEV TABLE RND 1-30 + Aggression - doctor level x 2
: INJ SEV TABLE
1-10 = In game injury 1 qtr
11-20 = In game injury whole game
etc
So can you see that the whole thing is random but if I am correct it explains why certain aggressive players get injured a LOT more than other players.
