Well a perfect 3-0 record in our first three serious games has been great but now we hit the painful part of our schedule where we have to face the big powerful nations like Canada and Brasil. I am not expecting wins in these games unless I am willing to really go all out. I will do that if I sense weakness, otherwise I will be sticking with the game plan.

First up is Canada.

They are 3-0 so far.

Game 1: Panama U21 vs. Canada U21 80 - 126 they pushed the ball, man to man and less effort. Panama only rostered four guys so I don't judge much by this but their PFs did most damage.
Game 2: Canada U21 vs. Costa Rica U21 98 - 42 they again pushed the ball, man to man and same effort (mutual tie). In this game most scoring came from the guards.
Game 3: Canada U21 vs. Bahamas U21 136 - 52 same tactics and another slaughter where their PF D. Williams was the man of the moment.

So they will have maximum enthusiasm as do we (8).

Their players are impressive.

Yes we lost to Canada by 30 but with Arnulfo Buzzolaro out injured, Víctor Roselló fouling out after 38 and Enzo Reiswig fouling out after 20 is was amazing we were so close. By the end of the game we were down to Víctor Roselló and $10k Jensey Ramallo trying to stop the Canadian $85k beasts.

What this means is Canada and Brasil are certainly first and second. Bahamas is out. We are almost ceratinly in. We have two more games vs Brasil (a big loss) and vs Barbados which should be close. So we should finish up on either 4-2 or 3-3 with a PD of about +20
Barbados still has to play Canada and us so should end up with a record of about 3-3 or 2-4 with a PD of about -20.
Costa Rica has to play Bahamas and Panama so at least one big win but even if they win both they can't catch our PD.
Panama gets to play Costa Rica and has a bye so at best they end on 2 wins. They can't pass us.

So at worst...

This game is big for us, not because we need to win but we need a low PD. If we can keep the score low then we should be fine. So I will be looking for a defensive team if I can within the limited pool of players that we have.

This could be a massive game but as I have said in previous discussions I think we are 95% safe into the next round unless there is a massive blowout in the Costa Rica v Panama game.

Barbados is by coincidence coached by my real life friend abigfishy which makes this a bit of a pride game for me but I wont let that stand in the way of doing what is best for the team. It is funny we have discussed how we run our NTs a lot and I have even stolen some of his ideas and he has taken some of mine.

Their games.
For enthusiasm I know they TIEd every game this season so theirs is at the maximum possible.

Scrimmage Ecuador U21 vs. Barbados U21 103 - 104 (20024) They played Base/M2M and their star was PF Barrett Sherratt (23182067) but $10k PG Darryl Chopin (21456935) was also good.

Barbados U21 vs. Bahamas U21 108 - 71 (19611) flogged Bahamas and played LI/M2M. A flogging.

Panama U21 vs. Barbados U21 98 - 100 (19616) a lucky 2 point win with Panama putting in more effort and both teams playing Base/M2M, stars were Barrett Sherratt again and a different PG $13k Robert Thompson (22062149). $11k SG Gabriel Ashurst (21456938) also hit 8/10 FGs.

Barbados U21 vs. Costa Rica U21 90 - 92 (19617) Their luck ran out here losing by 2 playing Push/M2M against Costa Ricas LI/M2M. A bad shooting night but PG Darryl Chopin was the most prolific and Barrett Sherratt was all over the rebounds.

Barbados U21 vs. Brasil U21 73 - 104 (19620) Against the Brazilian big men they went Motion/M2M and faced a LP they couldn't stop. Only PG Robert Thompson could score and except for Barrett Sherratt rebounds were hard to find.

Canada U21 vs. Barbados U21 93 - 77 (19624) Both teams went Motion/M2M and neither side could score. Barbados actually won the rebounds with a big 20 from guess who, Barrett Sherratt who was also the top scorer with as usual Robert Thompson and Gabriel Ashurst backing up although at poor %. C Mbagnick Erskine (21456988) also had 14 rebounds.

So they have played a lot of different offences and M2M is clearly the safest option for us. They always play M2M and have similar ratings for inside and outside defence but slightly higher for outside. We have been running and gunning but I think we can switch it up. We have our best outside player Ahmed Cárdenas (21224323) out injured and our best inside scorer Arnulfo Buzzolaro (22949205) is back and in strong GS also our next best Jensey Ramallo (22949238) is in proficient GS and Víctor Roselló (22949223) is strong.

So this will mean a bit of a different look to the team. We want passing and defending guards and scoring big men.

Looking in detail we could easily win 0 games but still it was an achievement just to get there and the player's owners get extra income and experience so it is all good.

Three winnable games.
Very briefly:
Venezuela 49, 45, 26, 26, 25 (but all Cs) 25, 19 18 are top 3 guards.
Colombia 36, 28, 27, 19, 18 (but all Cs) 17, 14, 13 are 3 top guards.
Uruguay 41, 40, 30 PG, 29, 24 PG and a 22 SF.
Bolivia 22, 22, 19, 17, 16.

Very easy to see the weakest team is us. Venezuela and Uruguay are proabably a step above us so really I think we need to go all in on Colombia. If that is so then we need to be a little tricky with our tactics so they don't know what is coming for certain (even though it seems obvious to me).

So the game against Venezuela we will TIE and not play an outside offence which could be a bit ugly for us but we have to be prepared to take the pain to get a win. Nereira, Buzzolaro, Postey and Ramallo are in great shape so I propose throwing a curve ball and playing LP offence. It is a slow offence which should keep PD low and if they go 3-2 or 1-3-1 maybe we will even get some good inside scoring and the main point will be to throw off future opponents.

They were within 13 of Brazil. We clearly are not even close to their standard, still we have to go fr it at some time and this is it. While they do vary their tactics and may throw a 3-2 zone at us, I hope the bluffs I have thrown will work so we will face a man to man because we must go outside to have a chance.

Ahmed Cárdenas (21224323) was the hero of the day yet again but he had great assistance from Víctor Roselló (22949223). Brilliant!

After that great victory we now have to face Uruguay with our enthusiasm shot and even worse with three of our top 12 players out injured. This wont be good but as it is our last remote shot of a win we will be going for it again with another CT.

So far this season they have played: LP/M2M, Motion/3-2, Motion/FCP in a scrimmage, Motion/M2M, Motion/M2M, R&G/M2M, Motion/2-3 (against USA), Motion/M2M, LI/M2M, LP/M2M.

So they do like to mix it up a lot.

Players are good, much better than ours. 2x $40k C, a $30k PG etc.

My guess is they will try to pound it inside against us but hopefully stick to man to man.

We will stick with our best tactic which is motion and man to man. Rosello moves to the ackup because of his gameshape.

Esto no será bueno, pero como es nuestro último disparo a distancia de una victoria vamos a ir por ella de nuevo con otra CT. En lo que va de esta temporada han jugado: LP/M2M, Motion/3-2, movimiento / FCP en un partido de práctica, Motion/M2M, Motion/M2M, R & G/M2M, Motion/2-3 (contra EE.UU.), Motion/M2M , LI/M2M, LP/M2M. Así que me gusta de mezclar mucho. Los jugadores son buenos, mucho mejor que la nuestra. 2x $ 40k C, $ 30k PG, etc Mi suposición es que va a tratar de golpear en el interior en contra de nosotros pero espero que se adhieren a un hombre a otro. Yes it was a great game, what an achievement!!

As for Uruguay they do have a fantastic team but we will leave nothing left in the tank! Looking forward to another exciting match!
