They'll do well, he'll have all sorts of fun getting Nash and Gasol to link up, and I don't think a Lakers team with Kobe and Howard is going to be bad defensively. More importantly the players and coach have good relationships and mutual respect and that just wasn't there with Mike Brown.

Really? Did I hurt your feelings? My bad.

1. "PR" stands for "Public Relations". Wouldn't the "PR choice" be selecting the guy whose name is being chanted for in the game played the day before?
2. Which offensive scheme would be a better fit for this particular roster, the triangle or a system predicated on pick n' rolls? And if you take Phil for 2 years (that's assuming he remains vested for that period of time), then you are looking for a new coach right at the time you are deciding to rebuild your roster around Dwight Howard. Nuh-uh. No thanks.

What... forums are only for agreements?
Far too many people on here want to say something, and have everyone agree. How boring.

well I don't think D' Antoni is the guy for the job.....maybe I exaggerated when I said "Rather had Phil and D' Antoni and Mike both"

But still, Phil would've been better and I bet with D Antoni they will be at the championship, but where they'd lose to the Heat.

D'antoni has only had success with one system in his entire career, and then just fairly limited success. His success has always been with fast athletic teams who can run, pass, and shoot from the perimeter. Doesnt sound much like the Lakers of today to me. Is it possible he can run an offense that fits the Lakers players? Sure, we just havent seen it with success yet. He got fired from the Knicks just last year and the Knicks improved as a result. The Knicks! The Lakers hired him because he doesnt rub Buss the wrong way like PJ, he is a big name that people know, and he is cheap. That is what I call a move for the sake of 'public relations', not pure X's and O's.

Jackson has had success in the past with multiple types of players, including a strong post up player named Shaq, and won championships.

Your posts are always the same, you think you are brilliant, you think you really know basketball, then you just rage and insult anyone who doesnt agree. It doesnt make me mad, it makes me laugh. I hope you are right, I hope it all works out great and they win a championship. However I stand by original statement, no matter how insulting and self righteously you respond

Rage and insult?
Have a spoonful of cement.
If you want to trade insults, fine: I can do that too. But I'd prefer to talk basketball, particularly if it doesn't mean that I *HAVE* to agree with you. Would that be ok with your sensitivities? You made some points initially that I'd like to respond to - but I have things to do at the moment. Back in around an hour!

I think Phil's desire for special treatment and accommodations had quite a bit to do with whether he was the right choice. I think a good full time coach is better than a great part timer.
