Based on experience I used to have a player a shooting guard where he only had average JR. He was usually my highest scorer every season and even placed 2nd overall in the scoring title in league 2.4 once. Having a lower JR, he actually will shoot less outside and will shoot closer or mid range shots more. He surely will not be more accurate in outside shooting (3 point shooting) but you can try to turn his weakness into an advantage by using tactics that will suit his skills. Since my player had high driving he used to just drive and drive or drive then suddenly pop a shot a few feet from the basket. I usually used LI and patient offense. So the higher the JR the more tendency for a player to shoot farther more.

Shotblocking is a tricky thing. What I notice is if your bigmen shotblocking is high and your ID is so so, there is a great tendecy to pick up tacky fouls or maybe its I was just unlucky to pick up some of those foul prone players (yes there are such players in BB). Guards with high shotblocking (average to respectable) are nice, they block shots like they have no fear whatsoever. The thing is no one really bothers to train shotblocking so high because of salary issues.

Are they important important? With the right skill set yes they can be but if their skill set aren't in sink they will also be a bane. A player with every high JS and JR but low driving and handling won't be as successful as a shooter. In my opinion a player with strong to proficient JR is already enough for a u21 squad. I still think driving and handling has a bigger influence as compared to JR in shot making abilities.

I never have trained any U21/NT worthy players because I wasn't really interested in the National team when I started out though I have lately been training younger players. For me training players is one of the most fun things in the game. You mold a player to what you think will work, test the player then refine it more to be more effective.

I have more experience in looking for players in the transfer list that will suit my style of play. Since I have been in league 2 for quite a number of seasons already, I have gone through quite a number of high skilled players and defensive/offensive type of players. If you would ask what I prefer I would prefer a more offensive team since defense can go only so high in a u21 setting. I came to that conclusion after trying a defensive team one season to an offensive team the next in league 2.

I am really not officially on the u21 staff only did press releases one season during the time we won the u21 asian championship. That was what got me interested in the national team. But I have had quite a number conversations with our ex u21 manager PH Cezzz on how to train players. We would at times go through the skill pops of a player and discuss what he or I would want that player to look like.

ps. sorry if I'm writing in English (yes I know nosebleed) but my Tagalog really isn't that good. Pasensya nalang po.

i find your question very intriguing , anyway, anong ibig mong sabihin sa tanong mo? sa pagkakaintindi ko, both Jump Range and Shot blocking are are important to a positional player, what do i mean about it, for a PG or a SG Jump range would be an additional arsenal to a player's attributes, specially if the manager wants to train a player on that aspect which depends on the offensive play a manager wants to employ, so if a certain manager wants to employ Run and Gun, or motion or Princeton Offense, a player with a great Jump range would be a good weapon offensively. as for the shot blocking attribute, this is an aspect for Centers and Powerforwards,a great inside defender and rebounder will find it easier to improve his shot blocking, given that a manager wants to train his player on this certain aspect, what makes both (JR and SB) a great aspect of the game is, with Jump range (JR), a team can extend its offense, and with Shot block (SB), a player with a great ability on SB will help a team defend well inside as well as limit Fouls given to the bigmen, (honestly i dont know kung ano ang itinutumbok ng tanong mo) hopefully i answered them.

qualifications...as i have said in my speech, if you would base it on where my team is in my league i guess, you wont say i am qualified, but then again, is that your basis???, l have been here for 4 yrs literally,on only one team. been a member of BB Pilipinas BB for year now, i have survived for 3 yrs on my own, and if i would give my resume as a person, i dont think, this space is enough for my achievements, academically and professionally, i too am a Coach for a semi pro team, so basically i know what i am talking about in terms of this game.

i am currently on the staff of the National team of BB pilipinas, and i think, and surely know every suggestion i have given is valuable enough for NT.

i have not applied for this position just for the fun of it, yes i was persuaded, but then again, if i was not persuaded, then they wont think of me as a valuable member.

thank you.

@Ramssesse

Again, I apologize if it comes across as insulting. What I just want is ma-prove mo na out of the 3, (well, 2 kasi wala naman atang balak lumaban yung isa) na ikaw ang dapat iboto (para sakin, at least).

well, for one i don't see anything said here in the forum as anything insulting, because i do respect anyone's own opinion, sabi nga nila, "opinyon mo yan",

Sgt Pepper.
1. true, i need more and a lot to learn, well i think hindi lang ata ako, we need to constantly learn, thats Life's, everyday we need to learn, all of us, what i am saying here is that, im willing to help here, i am not asking that you allow me to have U21 team, this is everyone's team. the work of a manager here is, to get the most out of a given team, since this is not my team, everyone has a say to what we can do to have a great run for winning.

2. true again, i am not a couch potato or am i a computer geek, if that would be one of the credentials, then for this one, i am most likely to fail, well i only open my lap top or desk top before and after my work, or if time allows i do peek in the middle of the day.

3. for in-game credentials, well, for one its not a boast, 2nd its a result for the love of the game, the A.I. here in BB gives a lot for me to be inspired for and more that that, it helps me to learn more about the game.

Sgt Pepper, no need to apologize, i am thank full for such an inquiry and given opinionated comment.

To answer your question what drastic change should be done to our U21? You have been in the U21 for how many seasons already. You have seen how our future U21 players have been monitored by our ex manager PH-Cezzz for how many seasons. He can only do so much as giving advice and motivating managers to train their players. If the managers do not listen or stop training their players midway, there is nothing a U21 manager can do. Right now our current 21 yo players are those our outgoing manager has cultivated since he started his term 4 seasons ago.

Any success our U21 will have this season PH-Cezzz has a great part of it. He has set the roadmap to success in his two terms of cultivating players for our U21 team. He even scouts U21 players even after he knows he will be stepping down to give the next U21 manager an easier time when the transition is made. He may not have a hand in training all our current U21 players but he certainly has left his imprint in a considerable number of them. I hope I can emulate what he did to our U21 team so that the next U21 manager will also have an easy time when he assumes the position.

Since you are U21 staff, surely your insight of how the U21 team is being run right now carries more weight than mine. After the elections is done maybe you can share what "drastic" measures are needed for our U21 team because for me the way our outgoing manger has run our team is pretty good. I am sure the next manager will value the insight of someone that has been a U21 staff for many many seasons already.

What kind of team is our U21 team? If I say that we will be champions at the end of the season then I am a fool and a braggart and will be insulting many managers here with a statement of success. I don't even have access yet to the players so I cannot judge how good our team will be. But if you want a more definite answer then based on my conversation with our outgoing manager it has a very good chance of reaching the finals.

But definitely a U21 team is not a rebuilding one. How can you be rebuilding a U21 team? What is there needed to be rebuilt? Every season you take what the the current crop of 21 yo players have to offer. A U21 team is a one season gig for 21 yos after that they will be discarded and another batch of new players will take their place. So please enlighten me on how a U21 team can be in a rebuilding process? Do you mean you can control what tactics a U21 manager can implement year after year?

I think the main problem is the continuity of 21 yo to the National Team. I was surfing one of the forums the other day and one foreign manager was complaining about how high reserves was for free agents. I was shocked to see he mentioned as his example was a 25 yo 200k+ pinoy player he owned that never had been in the radar of our National team. He even apologized by saying sorry to any Filipino who read his statement that the player got retired because no one had bought him from the TL. This happened around July of this year if I am not mistaken. A U21 coach cannot do anything after his players graduate from the program. There should be better communication between the U21 managers and the NT ones to have a plan of continuity of potential NT players from the U21 pool. That for me is something very important. Our reliable NT players are very old already. The newer NT players aren't as good yet as compared to our old NT players.
