Unless their skills are identical or very very similar, then DMI still doesn't come into effect at all, especially with trainees. First off, if both of these trainees have 8 game shape, I will set the player with the better skills for that game into the lineup, even if his DMI is smaller. Say you are playing against a LI team: Will you take the player with 8ID and 6RB but with a little higher DMI or will you take the trainee with 9ID and 7RB? I personally will take the guy with better skills because he fits the situation better and the game shapes are close enough (both of them being strong). Also, When dealing with trainees, the DMI accounts for both game shape and salary/skills but when the trainees skills are all developing still, it is very hard to tell whether the DMI is accounting for better game shape or just larger salary/more skills overall. That is why it isn't the most reliable method. In your eyes it may drastically change something, however I will never make a lineup decision based on DMI, when the game shapes are the same, because there are many other skills that need to be taken into account. If I ever come across two players on my team with the exact same skills in every category then I'll let you know, and delightfully take the one with the higher DMI.
