yeah but you're forgetting he is the master of the BB economy - he knew the market was going to crash and cashed in his chips at the right time!

I figure he could have won it without the extra 400k in salary but i guess he wanted to make sure.

There's a whole lot of ways to win a championship....he just picked the most expensive and unsustainable one!

It doesn't need to be sustainable. He only needs the guys for 3 weeks them dump most of them back on the market before he goes bankrupt. In the meantime he has won a championship ..... no different from NBA teams loading up just before the trade deadline like Bibby being traded and waived and then landing in Miami.

NBA has a salary cap though. Miami can still play with Bibby and all their current roster next season if they want to.

I don't think it's any secret that this team isn't sustainable and half of them won't be around after the finals, that's kind of the point. He has more than double the salaries of any other team and even triple some of the ABBL team salaries now. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of strategy, planning, training, even playing at all etc if someone is just going to buy the championship at the end of the season.

The only upside is that all that money he hoarded after tanking a season HAS to be just about gone by now.

Personally, I quite like the latest purchase, he was bound to win anyway (seriously, if you can't win with 400K salaries more than your nearest opponent, give up the game), so the latest addition just wastes a bit more cash.

Its one of the problems with the large salary guys being so cheap, that its a very easy and cheap tactic to just buy them up before the playoffs. Anyone can do it - heck I've got enough cash to buy a couple of those sorts, I'd just rather not, as I think its low, and would rather win without resorting to such tactics. Each to their own I guess...

Anyway, a couple of good mathups this round. You'd think WA will easily get up over BHB, and BLS easily over Avalon, barring a late addition.

Myself and BPS and Canberra and Pancakes should be the games to watch. Both could go either way, but I reckon HCA will be to much to overcome in both games. Anyway, looking forward to it!

The NBA has a "CAP", it is only a soft cap not a hard cap which is why their cap is a joke. But that wasn't my point it was only a comparison.

If this becomes a tactic that people regularly use then the game will be ruined, simple as that. Maybe they can bring the playoff deadline back to maybe week 8 or something, that way people would have to carry players for a number of weeks meaning teams would only "load up" on 1 maybe 2 players at the most because of the cost???

I almost think the better bet would be to stop players salaries getting so high that they are so cheap in the first place

Not sure how it could be done though. Maybe an individual player's salary could be capped or something?

Not to sure how they will tackle that problem but there a lot of world class BB managers addressing their concern. Esp in regards to the buzzer beaters best tournament, and very soon the CUP tourney.

I was so close to buying one of these rent o' players myself, but I came to my senses and chose a more safer option with a 150k salary big man which is much more sustainable for me.

The thought of a 300k-400k salary big men on my roster just scares me, but of course if I had WA's bank roll I wouldn't wouldnt think twice. Kudos to him for beating the system and coming up with such a brilliant plan.

Even though he may be buying a title, he still had to tank a season of ABBL to be to put himself in a position to win a few more ABBL titles. Sure his plan might not go down well with some of you guys, but he still had a plan and will most likely get away with two consecutive abbl titles or more.

@mllama : agree totally about players salaries getting out of control. Triple stupendous small 125k versus triple stupendous big 300k certainly has created the vacuum in purchase prices for these sorts of bigs, meanwhile top quality smalls get more and more expensive. Ideally and all-star small should be roughly the same salary and purchase price to an all-star big. Maybe if the BB's get this balanced better it would help the situation.

@Koop : I don't think anyone has a problem with his plan, plenty of teams add 1 rent o' player for a playoff run, I think it is more just the size of bryce's shopping that has put everyone off. It is a total legit strategy but it turns the game from a basketball sim to a finance sim.

Yeah 1.6mil in salaries is a bit insane...

it would be more fun if it was only a basketball sim, but how would that distinguish the good teams from the bad teams... if it wasnt for money, everyone would end up in the abbl randomly..

you do have a point though, a 500k salary team and a 700k salary team, at least the 500k team has a chance to beat the 700k team either thru, HCA, better gameshape, enthusiasm or injuries..

but a 500k team beating a 1.6mil team is a lot less likely...

I find it hard to think this was a plan - i think he got lucky with the market crash. That said he's done a decent job with the cash since he got it.

I would have spent it a lot differently myself and built a more sustainable team but that's my preference - Bryce can spend his cash as he pleases.

I guess it's a bit like day trading. Quite a few people frown upon it but if you have the time and nous to do it well then good luck to you.
