Yeah that's a good idea, my dorsal action is quite lacking so that should hopefully get better

Good stuff guys. Best of luck with it all.

As someone who is almost 30, and has never had a serious injury and never been over weight I find it very hard to relate. I also don't have kids.
But its cool to see you guys working for a goal.

Sure I've never been overweight, but I also haven't always been my fittest, currently I'm doing about 60-90 weights every 2nd day, walking or jogging with ny girlfriend and playing comp basketball on Wednesdays. I'm 5'10 and 78kgs. My weight never really c
hanges, but how I carry it does. I'm trying to get my 6 pack back and to get maybe over 80kg with more strength and cardio capacity.

Let me know if anyone gets on fitocracy, look me up... RadRanga...

good stuff ranga ! fitocracy doesnt look like my cup of tea, i am more just in in for the cardio at the moment... the main thing for me is to keep just stepping it up.. it is amazing how far the body can come in such a short time.

I think i may have pushed a little to hard yesterday.. back is stuffed this morning.. but, no pain no gain... right? :P

I used to be a Personal trainer for 5 years so I can say that sore lower backs are usually a result of weak hamstring/calf strength/flexibility & core muscles.

Try some extra hamstring stretches every day and you'll notice the difference SH.

Yeah, knowing how hard to go and how soon has always been key for me. When I start tomorrow I'll be taking it easy for the first two weeks (2km a day) to prevent shin splints and the like before stepping it up over the coming months. By the time the City to Surf comes around in August I should be doing well.

And yes, a pair of joggers is all that is needed. I also understand where Rad Ranga is coming from too as I used to go to the gyn daily (more than 15 years ago now). I'm a stocky, somewhat solid 105 kg. I laugh when I think about how, at 110-115kg, I used to do a bit of bouncer work. I would never have been able to chase anyone though. LOL While I'm currently closer to 100 (although I was having drinks with my best mate last night and he thinks I'm closer to 90 and that my scales are up the shit!) I don't feel terribly overweight until I grab my gut, which is where the weight is...literally a spare tyre. So that will go in the coming months.

The greatest thing I have found in the past with running is that while hard yakka at firts, leaving you tired afterwards, it isn't long before you have more energy than ever! You suddenly feel like running 3 or 4 times a day and you just generally feel like there is more you can do.

@ RadRanga, like Skyhookz, the fitocracy doesn't sound like something for me right at this moment but who knows down the track if I can become more disciplined with my weight and fitness management. Good luck with getting that 6 pack back. we all want one whther we admit it or not. lol

Fair enough about fitocracy, its not everyone's cup of tea.
Tho doesn't matter what lvl ur at its a good way to keep a log of your workouts, tells you ur PB's and keeps charts. It also can link up with runkeeper if people use that on iPhones etc.

Also turning 30 is a bit of a wake up call for me, I need to get a routine and some fitness back I think coz I've heard that its hard to get a routine etc post 30, but I think that's kind of a bullshit excuse, if u want soethibg, ull work for it.

Iike this thread, talking about fitness can really help everyone.

well, i am 36 mate and have changed my lifestyle completely.. so age has nothing to do with it... will i ever get back to my physical best.. prolly not... can i get into some kind of shape that isnt round... sure :D

I wanted to use runkeeper, but all the shit i have read on the Samsung Galaxy s2 basically says dont use it for exercise as water/condensation can get in the phone and ruin it, and alot of these armbands actually cause more problems as well!

Look, we could keep this thread or start a new one just for logging in our daily/weekly efforts. It doesn't hav to be full on but a visual reminder (when we check it) of how much effort we are putting in. Just an idea. Sometimes just seeing how much or how little we do is all the motivation one needs.

We should start a new thread for diet and fitness. I am like Leeroy with the stupid foot injury but mine has driven me insane. Plantar faciatis (sp?) sounds trivial but it kept Joachim Noah off the court for six weeks and wrecked Tyreke Evans last season so it can be tricky. Been over a year for me. Obviously there is no excuse. I can still crawl. I can still starve but when you feel depressed and are in pain all the time food can be a comfort. Bad idea obviously.

Skyhookz at 36 I was balling 5-6 nights a week, still playing A-Grade domestic and was a slam-dunking machine. Now I am a fat useless slob. Still over the christmas break I was riding the bike every day for 1-4 hours and on the beach most days for a while as well. That was a great start. Now back at work it is a lot more of a challenge, but I am with you guys.

I will admit one additction and dilemma. Coke. I love it. Not cocane but cola. I was drinking Coke-Zero for ever but the science teacher at my school went on a massive campaign to get all of us off it because of how harmful the articficial sweeteners are. So while my exercise was up over Christmas by a lot it was the same time I switched to full sugar coke so my progress was about 3KG in 6 weeks, pitiful by any standard.

Coke is absolutely my addiction and weakness. As a teenager I would drink 2 ltrs a day. As an adult I can stop drinking it for a few weeks before I somehow find myself drinking gallons of it again! I don't even note the slip...it just happens. I have recently purchased small cartons (12) of mini cokes. Not those skinny little things but the ones we drank as kids, the small, fat 250ml cans. I have done this in an attempt to ween myself off prior to commenceing training again. In fact (and this is how ridiculous one can get) I have drunk 3 of these cans in the last 10 minutes! Why? Because I still have another 5 to get through so there is NO COKE IN MY FRIDGE TOMORROW...when I sart running, only WATER! LOL
