Care to make any early predictions on who will be in the relegation spots (and relegation playoff spots)?

(Apart from yourself. :p)

It's near on impossible to guess correctly what the end of the season will look like, based on how teams look right now. All of the new teams have money to spend and either have been or will shortly be making improvements to their teams. Then there are teams like the Windies and PPH who merely scraped through last season, who no doubt also have some cash to spend. Until teams commit to this season, it's pretty much a waste of time trying to predict anything so early on.

I will tip HA for the title though. Hadders would be the only true rival I see in the Great 8 but I don't think he's quite ready to spend his money, personally I see him a season away. Corio on the Big 8 would have to be the most upset by HA's arrival, being the one most likely primed and ready to go this season. They may postpone a season and end up going head to head with Hadders next season. Akuma looked good in his first season but generally a team that goes well in their first promotion season doesn't always suggest an improvement in the 2nd season. He did make a wise decision to tank early and could also have some cash stocked to give the Great 8 conference a fair shake.

Appreciate Vios efforts with the "pants down review".

Would love some one to frame a market on the championship but failing that how about we each give odds as to our chances and then justify those odds.

I'll start with myself.

Odds for HA to win the championship 3 to 1 (against)

Reasons for
Have a deceptively good value for money roster and have the cash and experience to win and could very well start to miss the big bucks of the ABBL.

Reasons Against
Am keen to continue training young Aussie players, and wouldnt be able to train them properely if I really tried to push.

Will be spending 5 weeks in China during the season and whilst I should be able to set teams etc I wont really have time to focus as would be required to be a true competitor.

Am intent to preserve the vault - No challenge if I used it (would border on unsporting) and I want to keep it intact for if and when I do return to the ABBL

Havent really studied all the teams but have a gut feel Avalon Jets might try and push for promotion this season.

Great idea. but
and its a small but, no offence intended.
Ill be honest here. There is something about this league and this forum that ive never understood. and that is I can never EVER understand why people would reveal as much as they do in the forums. Some of you guys give too much away in the forums and, it doesn't matter if your bluffing or not, I would never EVER let slip some of the things you guys have said in here.
I truely thank you for it, because in all seriousness, there have been ltitle hints and prompts for things that ive picked up on that has made me think "hmmmmmmm.. i might just go check that out" .... maybe not with the team talking about it, but with someone else.

So .. whilst all the chatter is great.... its also double great!... for me! hoorah!. let slip ur secrets!
So erm... keep it up!

in the meantime, anyone want to let slip how much money they have in the bank, current average weekly income, what offence they are planning to play against me, the lineup and enthusiasm setting, and yer... all that stuff?!?! :)

Its wrong to say that I pour poison down peoples ears, but I have been known to use the forums for "gamesmanship" purposes.

Anyways Mr Regan

How about you at least "rank" your odds to win the championship and post them on this forum?

The game is far more enjoyable with an active forum though.

I'll most likely run patient all year, with m2m defence. Not really much my players can do even if I CT every game. I actually feel quite relaxed this season. :-)

sorry i wasnt pointing my finger at you saying u talk crap in the forums. i was just talking in general about lots of people, past and present forums who can be 'variable' in the actions compared to what they say in the forums. Zyler was a good example of that haha. ahhhhh. good times good times.

im not much of a betting man, i dont quite understand the odds system.

.........and looking into the future it is quite hard to predict what other teams can do. hindsight is a much better measure. so in hindsight, for last season, had i played a bit smarter and made a few more risky moves early in the season, and using SNuffies as the measuing bar, I would have been able to put up a comparable team to his and luck may have lead to me winning.

This season? who knows. if you are going to the measuing bar, and have $10mill in the bank and are going to use it at some stage in the season, then no. my odds are zero. unless all ur purchases are duds or get injured 2 weeks b4 the finals.
or u get some illness which means u cant log on and go bot. :)

i wasted 40k a week scouting towards the end of last season.

20k is the most that id ever spend on scouting now.

Why spend 40k a week scouting when you can buy the ABBL nbr 1 draft pick from last season for a couple of 100K???

Yeh I don't scout anymore at all, since nabbing Gab Wall when I promoted out of div4 I've noticed that you can save your $200k+ per season and just buy a decent trainee. As u don't need an 18yr old MVP every season you can save $600k and maybe even get lucky with the random crap that the draft throws up.

My chances of winning this season are about 40:1 against.
I have Wall and Davila who are worthy of the league but outside of that my team is severely lacking.
If I could finish 5th this season I'd be happy.
