Is the B3 winner always one of the best? Yes it is. So whats the problem with this system? Every competition you play u will face better and worse teams. Don´t they deserve the spot? Would they have motivation to play this game if they are excluded? Yes, maybe i am not getting it. How about league promoting and demoting, shouldn´t that systems be adjusted? Cup tournament, i faced top league opponent in round 2 and whole season i was 1 balled in fan survey and some bot made it to round 5, poor me i had no fun..

Does seem to be a little too random for the group stage. Maybe the best suggestion for to even it out is to make the games neutral court. If you draw two good teams on the road you're in trouble. HCA is so strong in BB you can't just be better to win a road game, if you have to be much better.

At this level there so many great teams that injuries, GE randomness and foul outs should be enough to mix it up even with neutral court in the group stage. Plus basketball is a sport that has fewer upsets than most of the others.

I wasn't much better than my opponent...

On neutral court you beat that team 80% of the time. Give him HCA and it's a toss up. BC Lučenec is making a game of that only due to the significant effect of HCA.

That's exactly the same situation in NFL and nobody complains about that.

NFL is probably the only sport/league that has fewer upsets that basketball. The difference is HCA is more pronounced in BB than in real life. Add in the huge gulf between the best and worst teams in BB and there's a huge random effect from the draw and HCA.

Yeah, the very best teams that have stockpiled up money and can spend into the negatives on a weekly basis should see their way through, but for everyone else the chance that you move on is heavily dictated by the random draw.

I've just realized that this seasons B3 thread is up and running. These are my 5 cents regarding the B3 balance discussion.

I think the current system is not great but is reasonably effective and fair for two main reasons:
1. The best or at least one of the best teams always wins in the end, which is the most important factor. Usually it's a team with an unsustainable salary, but it's still one of the best teams overall. The leader through the first stage is not important. The eventual winner is what matters.
2. Very few deserving teams fail to make the top 32 phase. And as long as you get there, you have a chance to win it all.

The biggest problem with the B3 scheduling issue is not with the type of teams that get into B3, rather the total number of games that can be played within a single season. It's difficult to make a perfect system for a worldwide competition with only 13 matchdays per season. Of course there is still plenty of room for improvement, but i don't think a complete overhaul of the system would necessarily fix these issues. Possible ways to improve could be deriving a formula (based on WR maybe?) that would make each teams schedules even or dropping the HCA entirely. Or they can introduce a minimum salary limit (similar to what is already implemented to fix the tanking issue). Even shortening the "regular 8 game season" to 7 games and creating a top 64 phase might make the competition more realistic and better.

Overall, my point is there are tweaks that can be made a but a complete overhaul might make things worse rather than better.

P.S. That Tehran - Metalist Kharkov game was awesome. I am not a big fan of Heydar Vahedi due to his very low JS, even for a C, but he is a one of kind player in BB regardless and i respect that.
