Looks like I'm investing in NT players next time around. Guess it doesn't really matter if they are American or not. Interesting.

Actually my "scrubs" play in league games on a regular basis especially during the cup, so I figured I would go out on a limb and count them too. Kenton Anderson played in all games but 1 by the way (27 mpg).

The reason my merchandise isn't as high as it "should be" is because I play my players out of position (or limited minutes at natural position) for training/GS purposes so they don't do nearly as well as they could which means not as much merch money.
Example.
UK's Tanner (playing out of position): 14 ppg 3.4 rpg 6.1 apg
Lethargy's Alas (playing natural position): 26.8 17.9 rpg 3.1 bpg

Hm which player's jersey is gonna sell more....

Yeah, I know what you mean. It could be worse, though. Alas is a fan favorite. I sell out seats when ML comes to town. My fan base contributes to lot of ML and KU merchandise being sold. Heck, I think they're even purchasing 'Anonymous.' Jerseys, too.

I meant his fans would be more likely to buy Alas jerseys than my fans buying Tanner jerseys, (hence the stats) at least this season.

Yeah, I understood that. I've seen what Tanner can do during last seasons playoffs -- when started in the correct position.

Edit: Looked at the box-scores, noticed you and ML recently played. Darn, I wanted to see a Tanner-Alas matchup (At PF).

Hahaha well I'll simulate the results for ya.
Alas - 81 points 39 rebounds
Tanner - 20 points 8 rebounds 22 assists 7 steals

Lol I'm kidding. You know Alas would never score on Tanner ;)

I smell a rivalry brewing. Maybe we'll get to see a finals match-up this season -- Alas Vs. Tanner. I'm also curious to whom would win in a fight between the two. Hah.

Yeah, I think you should just find the best available players for the best available price. If they happen to be American, then great. If not, oh well. Keeping/having a couple drafted stars might be a good thing though. (IMO)

What's interesting:
Based on the reported numbers... you had the exact same merchandise bonus that Kentucky had at the start of the season! Your $69k, vs. his " lucky to get 65-70K" (without NT playing time). So either 1 or more of the following is likely true: A) a team full of Americans does even less than w_alloy estimated. There's a cap on the bonus from American players & you both hit it. or C) A couple drafted stars are worth the same as a team largely full of non-drafted American stars.

I wanted to see a Tanner-Alas matchup (At PF).

I'd like to see that matchup, but at center! [Appropriate emoticon goes here.]

Edit: blah, you posted when I was. It seems interesting looking at his team's history that he's suddenly now trying to win. Seemed kind of cool he was obviously focused on other things. (judging by the fact that he spent seasons 7-18 in D4 or lower) Cool factor is declining rapidly...
Edit2: wasn't being sarcastic with that. good to see people not always super desperate about winning / no-fun
Edit3: lol, when i skimmed over your post initially... for some reason I thought you were joking about an actual rivalry between me & Kentucky, not just the players. Multitask fail. Well, the following posts really are unprompted then, aren't they?

[I'll try to add to a rivalry by beating a dead horse. And at a future date questioning your masculinity.]
Actually my "scrubs" play in league games on a regular basis especially during the cup, so I figured I would go out on a limb and count them too. Kenton Anderson played in all games but 1 by the way (27 mpg).

But you're deliberately misrepresenting the situation then. Going out of your way to say you drafted half your team is treating $1k-$2k players (putting up 3-4 game ratings) equal to your bunch of $60K+ guys from other teams. Only 1 of those 6 big $ players was drafted by you. And only 1 non-awful backup was. (at 24 min/game). Cup/Scrimmage games hardly matter regardless. (if at all)

Kenton Anderson hardly supports your cause either. 6.5 rating, 4.6 PPG, 3.7 RPG. He's not even a league appropriate player really. It's the skill of the player that's supposed to matter, not the playing time by itself. (Kenton Anderson doesn't want a Kenton Anderson jersey.)

This whole discussion started by speculating whether or not A-Dub having his 2 best players drafted by him helped merchandise income a great deal or not. And later questioning if having a team with non-drafted Americans would. (as most of your best players are). That's why i used you as an example.

That doesn't explain things as my merchandise was *still* higher than you both in the pre-season and after the 1 game week one. Where stats were really skewed. So the league leaders had little to nothing to do with it.

Look, your team was coming off a finals appearance & surely had near the max bonus for winning during this season, starting 9-1. You have an all-American roster, and a drafted NT american player. You surely had every single bonus, other than from league leaders. And even there... you have a guy on the league page in both rebounds & assists. While I was coming off demotion and had but 1 American getting starter minutes. In contrast, I was coming off demotion.

That's why I was surprised. Do you not see how that may be surprising?

[I would be entertained if this really did spark a feud now!]

Not at all. :) Nice win by the way.

I was just saying that technically half my team IS drafted and even the scrubs play big minutes in big games...trying to win 3 games a week in D.II gets complicated haha.
And whether anyone thinks having an all american roster is worth it or not is their decision.

The "finally decided to start winning" thing was me completely scrapping my team, and going into extreme rebuild mode (This was right after I drafted Tanner) back when tanking wasn't the thing to do. I got tired of having a decent older team barely competing in D.IV, so I built my team strictly for the future/NBBA, and tried to have Julian, Jeffries, Tanner, and Anaya all developed right as I (huge IF anyway) promote to the NBBA so I could sustain their salaries.
So we'll see how this near 10 season plan plays out...
It's worked out how I planned but I would never do this again, hopefully won't have to, and wouldn't recommend anyone trying it ever. A small rebuild, fine, but what I did was way too risky and expensive. (10 seasons of ridiculous training, trainees costing: 3.5m for Jeffries, 2m for Anaya, and 1m for Julian)
